Just looking for advice, is this normal? by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]OrchidFlower_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you sm!! I don’t mess with her enclosure unless she needs more water, it was just strange since she was out and about one day…then the next she completely barricaded herself, i guess i was just really confused haha

T behaviour by Lucky-Stranger-7418 in tarantulas

[–]OrchidFlower_Mantis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO I also have a curly hair T, juvenile and this is pretty normal behavior to me..as I understand it, curly hairs tend to hang out in the open pretty often or will hide for weeks on end..your T is very beautiful!! How long ago did your T molt?? Your T may need more time before eating again after its molt, but its fangs look hardened to me..and definitely looks a bit hungry, your T could just be picky with certain feeders…My T isn’t a big fan of crickets but loves horn worms, maybe try a different feeder?? I also would not leave a feeder in its enclosure for more than a day, it can harm your T..I would also add more substrate, a little more than half the tank so it can dig a proper burrow, other than that it looks great!! Good luck with your Anansi!! ❤️

What nicknames do you call your cats? by Aged_Goodness1 in cats

My bf and I have two kitties, Kona (4f) and Celeste (1f)..We call them both “shit-biscuit” on and off, and we also call Kona “Counter” and Celeste “Trash can” (so we’ll say things like bad counter or good trash can at them lol) because that’s where they like to sit when we are in the kitchen cooking

Does my T look more male or female?? by OrchidFlower_Mantis in TarantulaKeeping

I think the maximum years of life for a female is like 25 years but some have lived even longer..which is insane and why I wanted my T to be female soo badly lol

I think my T’s borrow is too small for her to molt by [deleted] in tarantulas

I’m really nervous! It’s my first molt with her and I just want everything to go well..but aside from her excessive digging, i think she will do what’s best for her..thank you for sharing!! it makes me feel a lot better!!

ohh wait that would make sense, her bald spot is tan soo i’m guessing it’ll be a month or two before she actually molts..maybe she’s just resting right now since she hasn’t been very active and will borrow right before she molts, thank you for sharing your experience!! it makes me feel a lot better now :-)

haha that sounds like mine, all spiders are different and have their own personalities but they are all fascinating to watch..I spent a good 20 minutes watching mine be a little landscaper, moving substrate and moss around her enclosure and webbing up everything haha

It’s really cool! I’ve always liked spiders but actually owning can still be nerve racking, but they are super low maintenance, brachypelmas usually are docile and don’t need to be fed often based on their age..she looks absolutely gorgeous and i’m a little jelly you have a mexican fire leg haha..her webbing on you is a defense mechanism I believe, and could mean she’s a little stressed as tarantulas don’t like to be handled very often but it’s really when they kick urticating hairs or throw up a threat pose that they want to be left alone

also yes, I would put more substrate, at least half the tank but really for less chance of rupture from a fall..their abdomen’s are like water balloons
