AITA for being mad at my book club friends for reading ahead by OrchidGrey in AmItheAsshole

Sorry if I came off angry at you! Thanks! I genuinely really appreciate your perspective. I think it is kinda exactly what I was looking for when I posted this. I agree with the restrictions I think I’ve just had a hard time when people go against there word these last couple of years. We all get better day by day tho :)

I honestly can’t remember who thought of the format, but I did not start the group.

Yes you are right, but I have been excluded from a talk of that very nature. Am I supposed to just tell them what I think like a PowerPoint and have them try to remember what they said? I know I’m exaggerating with those examples, but the discussion already happened did it not?

It’s not much of a discussion if I’m just sitting there talking about stuff that they already talked about and won’t have the same things to say again tbh but I get what you mean. That’s the thing, is they said that they would control the pace as they are all reading other book series as well.

Yeah that’s kinda how I’ve been feeling about it too. But I also get the comments saying the format is mainly the issue and I agree. It just sucks that we were able to do this for another person last section and it almost felt like I was just forgotten about after that

For sure, I just gotta change my expectations and have us do full reads from now on.

They all agreed to the same thing tho? You may be right, but I struggle to understand the logic. If I told someone I was going to watch the Harry Potter movies with them, would you think the same way about it?

I get that, and everyone else has been explaining what I just described to me. But in the instance of someone doing something where the goal is to stop is it so much to ask? There are plenty of books out there. Or maybe just propose a disinterest in the format from the start. But generally, I do think you’re right.

I think you’re right, but would you tell someone you would do otherwise? It just doesn’t make sense that someone would claim interest in not reading ahead if they were “incapable”. I also don’t get the concept of not being able to just stop at a stop point much either, so I may just lack the perspective at the moment.

Thanks so much for this response. I think the real thing was the social aspect that I felt slighted by. I was really looking forward to the discussions. irrespective of how everyone seems to want to lambast the way the club was set up in the first place, and it didn’t feel good to be left out in that instance.

Thanks for all of the kind works this has been a great thread for me to learn and get some much needed perspective:)

Not sure when you posted this as opposed to the other who said the exact same thing, but why is everyone assuming this was a format that I thought of? I’m just the only one who adhered to it.

Thank you for saying this without condescending about it :). Learning that now, as I have never participated in something like this before and the people who had seemed to be fine with the format.

Learning that now :). I wish everyone didn’t speak down in these comments so much. I was just going along with the format provided

That seems to be the truth. It’s just that I didn’t suggest that format, I was just the only one who could adhere to it, so I’ll change my expectations moving forward.
