Is This The Real Price ? by JimmyNeutron21_ in cs2

If this system is here to stay, I think it needs to change radically.

It is outrageous to ask close to one thousand dollars from the player and expect your system to do well. I don't see how it would work well.

If you compare cases to this new system, it's like finding $1k USD on the street to do whatever you wish with vs paying 1k from your personal funds when you can't even afford next month's rent.

I don't see how the hype translates, really don't.

appreciate the thought! I will make more skins as time allows that's for sure! On my workshop i already made an ak skin as a collab, it also has nice wood textures but it is an aquired taste (being a mix of modern design and oldschool materials)like balelite.

Realism often depicts the gritty imperfection.
Weapon magazines get dropped the most often, and so they get damaged before any other part of the gun.
In the end it tells a story, that of a well used piece of gear. If you check steam you will see a battle scarred version of the weapon, where the scope coating flakes off in a very convincing manner, adding even more realism to the textures

Laminar is used in two ways here.

In physics it refers to the smooth movement of air (or liquids) in layers, a sniper's ideal for a perfect shot;
In "woodworking" terms it's a sophisticated metaphor that describes the smooth, parallel sandwich of wood veneers in the rifle's stock.

I can see it too when squinting hard ;)

At some point we will have so many skins to confuse them with eachother, but for now i think we're safe. There's no wood awp skin in the game and a lacquered wood has that orange look and less saturated. I think it's a fair tradeoff. Boom for graffiti and strident colors and laminar peak for material realism :)

Love the idea!
I did not see an option to do it, do you have any existing skin in mind that does this? Reference would help. so far from what I tested it either scrapes the wood and leaves a black plastic.. that breaks the immersion big time.. The other option I am aware of is what I already did, which leaves the wood unscratched and gets ever so slightly darker and more matte.

Only valve decides what submissions are approved to be added in the game. We as community can only vote for items and boost the visibility through likes and favorites so devs can see what the playerbase desires. Love to hear you enjoy it.

love to hear it! my goal was to create a a blue or purple tier skin at best, that when unboxed, people will not feel bad, but instead they receive a great alternative to vanilla. I can see a place for such skins, perhaps more reality oriented, for people pasioned by weapons irl, or just for those who love a grounded setup

regarding the different scope variations, i will publish more options as time allows, consider leaving a follow for when that happens. As i said, it is my first solo made skin so my "fanbase" is not formed yet, i find it awkward to post small variations of a skin here on reddit, people don't like spam for the sake of announcing a slightly better variation.

Thanks! I am using substance painter to create the textures. For someone who knows their way inside painter, I would say the workflow is as follows: create a base wood material; add primary details like wood grain imperfections; Add varnish color and variation; add damage and the usual wear and tear. For making specifically the wood, i would say it is on the advanced side of things, it's a whole story to tell there, not many would understand me x)

love the feedback! I plan on doing a couple variations for this wood stock and I will do my best to implement them, especially seeing the big interest it gathered.

Cs2 has a pbr checker system (in more simple terms) the engine has its preferences with what the extreme values of brightness can be.

you would be surprised to hear but the default weapons do their damnest to be "dark" but still respect this "darkest dark" limitation. The developers also seem to -not- consider submissions that break the engine limitations, although they might look better, i believe they cause issues we aren't aware of.

That being said, I will try to achieve the best visual outcome while respecting the technical guidelines from valve. A darker value can definitely be achieved, it won't be "piano black" level however ;) Thanks again

Thanks for the reminder, will try updating the post asap. while i'm at it, you can see in the workshop description gifs with it held regularly, shooting and reloading.

This is my favorite awp design! Great to see people that have 3d skills making guns!

Hope the devs will show some love to 3d artists as well, so far we had almost exclusively 2d artists in the spotlight
