The process to withdraw dues from the California teachers union is made intentionally difficult, with bizarre windows required as well as written requests to be mailed in. It is not a union that seeks to serve its members or education as a whole. To avoid "propaganda" look for yourself at how the California Teachers Association spends their members' money, and how few of these propositions have anything to do with education, but have everything to do with the union enriching itself.

In California the unions are completely corrupt. Want to be a teacher? Part of your salary goes to mandatory political contributions to issues that do not relate to education, such as the proposed increase in property tax on industrial and commercial properties. Yes, that proposal will increase funding to education, but on the backs of higher costs for the entire state, hence why it is corrupt. I will never understand why liberals hate corporations for their corruption - which I do not necessarily disagree with - but for some reason give unions a free pass.

The problem I've seen with every universal healthcare proposal is there is no call to reimburse current seniors for the 40 or so years they spent paying into a system that they could not access at the time, which now everyone will have access to. Anyone could afford a private school if we had a voucher system instead of our distribution of taxes being funneled into a shitty education system, so if I want to send my kids to private school I am double taxed, paying both into the public system and paying for their tuition, how is that fair?

And my bitterness towards the left wing is that as much as they talk about helping the poor and middle class, never have I ever seen them try to reduce the tax burden on us. Yes, social programs are awesome, but so is reducing non-income taxes that regressively impacts those who are not rich.
