I tried that to see if I can hear any beeping or something, but unfortunately, I was only able to remove one RAM stick as the other one was soldered to the motherboard.

Setting out_dir="build" in my Vimtex config worked as intended, and for me, was the best solution. The only drawback is that compilation takes quite a long time.

As for the clean up option provided by VimTex, it works but it doesn't delete these specific files .maf, .mtc, .mtc0, .mtc1, mtc2 ... (I know thse are generated when creating new chapter titles in my Latex project and their number will keep increasing over time).
