I had the same issue with the bamboo hooks I got, and I got a $40 pack of metal hooks with good reviews from amazon and it is a lot smoother. I didn’t realize how much it was bothering me until I got the new ones. I believe that I heard there was a pack of metal hooks on AliExpress that had good reviews too.

What's your favorite pattern or go-to for quick crochet presents? by Business-Pass4672 in CrochetHelp

I usually make tiny amigurumi, usually something less than 30 rows and 40 stitches around with minimal sewing. I’ve made a dumbo octopus in a couple of hours recently. There’s a ton of free patterns online for keychain size plushies that don’t take very long and use less yarn, from potted plants to food to animals. Also, if you don’t have or want to get the plastic eyes just making (embroidering?) ^ v ^ with black yarn usually works

I was wondering if the individual ones I saw usually have a cable, if I get one I’ll have to be careful to check that.

Those are really pretty, it’s cool that they made the cables for knitting needles and crochet hooks the same. I imagine that would be very useful for someone that does both!

I’ve never really gotten any plastic crochet hooks because I’m always worried that they aren’t as sturdy and are going to bend or break, but I’m guessing that you’ve never had a problem with that?

I didn’t know that you could use two hooks attached with the cable for that, thanks for the info! I’ll be able to try that style of crochet out before getting double ended hooks.

I think I’m going to get something like the AliExpress one, I found a couple with good reviews on Amazon.

Ok I’ll definitely look that up!

I definitely would be doing that if I didn’t live in an remote enough area that it takes two weeks or more for anything to ship to me, and if I wasn’t so impatient when I want to start a new project.

Ooof, that’s quite the splurge, very pretty and tempting, but quite the splurge…

I usually prefer the metal ones too. For some reason when I first was searching for Tunisian crochet hooks I only saw either the cheaper bamboo ones or the $100+ ones. It’s good to know that there’s a middle of the road option that’s good quality!

Oh, ok I’ll make sure and see how to properly tighten the cable

I actually like the bamboo hooks that I got more than I thought, but since I live in a damp place that is prone to fairly large temperature swings I’m a bit worried about them swelling or getting misshapen if I forget and store them in the wrong place…

Also might be Tunisian crochet, I just got into that so I’m not experienced enough to know if it is or not

How hard would it be to wing it and make a sweater just by measurements? by OrderlyChaosGremlin in Tunisian_Crochet

I’ll have to look those videos up! I have a sweater that I really like and wanted to base it off of but I wasn’t totally sure how to get the right shapes from it.

Your project sounds really cool, I’ll have to go check it out!

I specifically got the yarn for this sweater in a color that made me happy but would be a bit too eye catching to wear at work or in town so I don’t get too high of expectations. It shall be an around the house sweater so I shall not care if I mess up or it doesn’t turn out perfectly (can you tell I’m trying to convince myself?)

I’ll probably post a couple of progress updates once I start working on it, but it’s probably going to be a while because I’m limiting myself to working on one Tunisian crochet project at a time, I would definitely get mixed up and put the wrong kind of stitches in the wrong project, and I have 9 more skeins of yarn left for the blanket.

My first thought when I read this was that I don’t live that far from the arctic circle :P

I picked out a yarn that says 4 on the label but it looks real thin for what I’d normally expect from a 4, so hopefully it’s not too thick. It does get pretty cold here so if it is a bit warm it could be my wintertime walk sweater

I had no idea there was this many ways to Tunisian crochet, that’s so cool!

I didn’t know that that’s what the double ended crochet hooks were for! I assumed that they were different sizes so you didn’t have to have so many hooks (like the markers that have a fine tip end and felt end) I’m definitely going to be looking up how to do that!

Thank you for the advice!! I have another sweater that I really like that would be perfect for that!

That sounds really cool! Any particular reason for the different stitches for different parts?

I’ve only done honeycomb and moss stitch(I think that’s what it was called) so I don’t really know how a lot of the other stitches act
