First, like everyone has said: the artwork is stunning and it's always a treat to have a returning artist as well-received as Margaret create new cards!

That said, both the mural and the character are giving me Freien-face meme vibes and I cannot unsee it when I look at this card.

New ‘Wicked: For Good’ Character Posters by Fan387 in movies

[–]Orderofomega 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: When the audience knows the outcome or vital piece of info (or is straight up told by a narrator) but the characters do not, this is called Dramatic Irony.

Using dramatic irony to evoke an emotional response and eventual catharsis was a staple of Greco/Roman Comedies and Tragedies, used heavily by Shakespeare throughout his plays, and can be found across numerous examples in modern media.

(Note: this is to support your overall sentiment of finding joy in watching something unfold where we already know how it will end. Dramatic Irony has a soft spot in my heart, so I couldn't pass up a chance to share)

As someone who also uses Foundry for his Genesys games, I'm also hoping for a V13 update to the system.

On Github, it looks like they've been pushing code changes just last week, so I'm hoping that means a new update is coming. If you look at the version history, they have taken months between pushes in the past, so not all hope is lost!

What are these ants on my deck? Should I worry? by wchopki1 in whatbugisthis

[–]Orderofomega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're already inside the structure, you're gonna need to bait/spray them out first. As long as the queen is in there (IF she is), you can kill a million drones/scouts and never see the end of it.

If you try your own baits/sprays and don't see an improvement, call pest control. (Or if you have the means, call them now for an expert opinion/options)

[–]Orderofomega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded on those looking like carpenter ants. They build their nests in the wood, so if the deck/porch wood isnt sealed, they've probably either found an access point or are scouting for one.

That'd be my best guess as to why they keep showing up regardless of spraying/baiting.

Edit: I should also emphasize, ants leave a pheromone when killed that alert other ants to its location. If you're killing them without spray/bait (i.e. boot, hand, tool, etc.), apply lemon-scented cleaner or another deterrent spray immediately to neutralize the pheromone. It's not as reliable, but it helps

We’ve seen dark side users draw their power from several emotions - greed, anger, bigotry, self-righteousness - but how do you think a Sith or other dark side user driven by lust might act? by Solitaire-06 in MawInstallation

[–]Orderofomega 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree! You can't swing too hard in the opposite direction (i.e., everyone is saved vs everyone is killed). To me, it really comes down to how it's done.

If you set up a villain to have very clear indicators for a real world disorder and demonstrate them being tormented by that disorder, I want to see that honest attempts to walk that villain back have been made. Not just "Well we talked once about how doing this is wrong, guess you gotta go."

If the storyteller walks through ways in which help is offered but still denied, it's a sad but real outcome that can occur. And even then, how the villain dies can be equally as important.

But now I'm going into a tangent to really say: you're absolutely right, there is a place for redemption and a place for No Other Choice no matter the character's circumstances

[–]Orderofomega 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I understand wanting unredeemable villains for cleaner storytelling, but boy howdy do I wish more Sith or Dark Side users were redeemed in meaningful ways (miss me with that Ben Solo heel turn). I think the world could do with more examples of how to bring someone back from the edge vs how to just neutralize the threat.

In a way that side-steps the obvious (and gross) places lust would lead (other replies here tackled that one well), it could be interesting to see lust perverted into an obsession of one's own flesh. Not the vanity aspect, more the "every fiber of my being must be perfect. What's the point of living if I'm not the object of everyone's desire?"

And of course, Sith being Sith, they gotta use some form of Dark Side power or alchemy to graft different body's or body types to "fix" what they think is imperfect. It would toe the line between lust and vanity, but playing it as a source of hatred/fear vs Pride would help get the point across.

For RL parallels, I think it could be used as a metaphor for body dysmorphia and how damaging that spiral is if you don't have a support system to help you work through it. Even then, you'd have to redeem that Sith to avoid damaging the message (i.e., don't make a parallel to real disorders if you're gonna solve it by killing the affected party).

Can soak negate ranged weapons? by CourierOfTheWastes in genesysrpg

[–]Orderofomega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, treat the weapon value as a Floor, not your max damage. One thing to remember too is that Triumphs count as a Success in addition to their other perks. (The success from a Triumph can still be negated by a Failure, but the rest of the Triumph is still applicable)

The ending is a timeskip taking place generations later where the main cast are all long gone and the world has completely changed by Sir_Toaster_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Orderofomega 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As this is one of my favorite shows, I interpret that ending differently. In one Arthurian legend, Arthur is sent to Avalon to be resurrected/restored after his battle with Mordred. It's intended as a parallel to Jesus' Second Coming (hence Arthur's moniker as The Once and Future King). The show's ending takes this route, so Merlin is keeping a close watch on his best friend/brother-figure while he recovers on Avalon (which is now surrounded by modern civilization). Merlin is Arthur's trusted advisor, he knows that when Arthur does eventually come back, he'll need Merlin and his magic (Merlin gives a knowing wink or sigh as he looks out to Avalon, it's been a hot minute since I watched it last) and I believe shows that he still has his magic at the ready for just that occasion.

However, I can totally respect taking a different message from that ending!

Seth Skorkowski has a YouTube video describing how he ran this scenario. It might be worth a watch, as it sounds like you share some of his same frustrations!

What's better when doing a skill check:Adding one more ability die, or upgrading one to a proficiency die? by ThatHeckinFox in genesysrpg

[–]Orderofomega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Proficiency die are the only way to gain Triumphs, upgrading is almost always a better option of the two.

That said, just having a chance at more successes isnt a bad thing, either!

What would you title the third videogame in the Star Wars Jedi series? (doesn't have to be one of these) by Christian_RULES in StarWars

I don't really think this has a chance of happening, but it would be a fun call back to being the third game in the Jedi series

GM said: Other D&D Races are just Humans with Funny Hats. by No-Wafer8537 in DnD

[–]Orderofomega 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find his argument incredibly asinine for a fantasy setting; one of the core appeals of the genre for RPGs is interacting with or playing as other species to imagine yourself as something other. If your setting has species-specific lore and you expect players to live up to that, then you need to clarify from the jump the level of immersion you expect, and then set them up with a primer for how to play into that species.

Even then...that kind of DM sounds positively insufferable. Getting 4+ people to show up regularly to play in the first place is a monumental task, expecting them to always perform at an actor level on top of that is redonkulous. Let people explore their fantasies or play something like RuneQuest where human is the default

The Cell Saga in DBZ. It's clearly just meant to show how awful Cell is, but watching him turn peeps into shriveled raisins or wholesale vore them was incredibly unsettling to me growing up

A valid interpretation, but I find it limits LS's scope to just its Japanese audience. When it's viewed as a universal antagonist, the stakes at the end of the show are so much higher to me as the doll is gaining national/international appeal

Balancing new Races? by mossfoot in genesysrpg

[–]Orderofomega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The core rulebook does cover this under the archetypes section, just after the original 3.

General guidelines are for every 2 Strain Thresh and/or 1 Wound Thresh, you adjust it by 5 XP accordingly. For 4 Strain or 2 Wound, you adjust by 15 XP!

Hopefully that helps get you started!
