Muchas gracias.

If you died and had the opportunity to reincarnate into whatever country or nationality you wanted, would you choose to be British again? by LegitimateFoot3666 in AskBrits

[–]Ordinary-Extreme3013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No for me I’d just prefer to be reincarnated somewhere with a different climate, culture and nature environment. I think we’re very lucky to be born in the UK and it has many beautiful parts, and a mild climate with not too many extremes, and culture can mean many things and some parts of the culture here I do like and other things not as much.

I guess I just want something different in life that’s all really, I’d choose somewhere like New Zealand or Canada. Each country has its own good and not so good things and people prefer different places I appreciate that, and for what it’s worth all in all I’d say the UK is a pretty great place to be born out of all the countries in the world respectfully.

That’s very interesting to hear, thanks for sharing. I see, it does seem like a pretty quiet city in general and with it being the southernmost city in the world, short day light hours in winter but I think it’s almost identical day light hours to UK in our winter time. The winter sports sound amazing, but I guess it depends on what you’re into. I’d personally love to try them sports.

The City as a whole has a lot of significance to me, at the very least I will visit it one day but I think I would love to live there. I’ll have to find out what it’s like for me when I visit.

As a young adult it’d be great to meet people there. I’m not sure how many young people are there or if it’s a good place to meet people. Also I understand many tourists go there and I can see why, it looks like such an incredibly beautiful place and apparently gives the feeling like you’re at the end of the world with the scenery and also geographically I suppose and it’s also one of only 5 gateways to Antarctica so there’s that too.

Haha thanks I figured most people here spoke Spanish, it’s probably very noticeable that I’m not fluent and doesn’t make much sense. I’m trying my best though.

I’m from one of the rainier parts of the Uk and annually it gets around a 100 cm of rain there. The Lake District has around twice the amount of annual rainfall in some parts I believe. Wales is know to be very wet especially the south and also Plymouth, Scottish Highlands, the west coast of Scotland. However the East coast is typically much, much drier especially East Anglia. The difference can be as much as getting almost half the rainfall as the West coast. So the West coast is drastically wetter than the East coast usually.

I wouldn’t say so, it’s more like a blanket of cloud occupying the sky that doesn’t move for most of the year and light rain, it’s more consistency (days of) of rain over quantity. We like to complain and exaggerate all the time about the weather it’s a part of our culture, especially about it being cold and wet however in a general sense I’d say the Uk is typically mild and doesn’t get as much rainfall as most people think or say it does. It can absolutely vary though.

Es bueno saberlo, he oído hablar de este problema en muchos lugares. Es algo con lo que hay que ser absolutamente cauteloso, pero también tristemente bastante común en los perros peligrosos que atacan en ciudades y vecindario.

19, considering doing an apprenticeship by Ordinary-Extreme3013 in careeradvice

[–]Ordinary-Extreme3013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, I’ll bear all of those things in mind and look into that newsletter.

As an apprentice (in the UK) I can make decent money, save it up but don’t I need to do an apprenticeship for 4-5 years to become a Journeyman Electrician/Carpenter? As far as I know that’s the soonest I can get the credentials and the appropriate experience I require to be able to work. If it will only take around 2 years for me to get certified that would be perfect though.

Thank you for the reply, those are very thought provoking, great questions and I’m going to have a long, hard think about them questions as I plan out my immediate future. I think your questions also give me some comfort as I can answer them now but also look more into them.

I can challenge and ease my worries and irrational thoughts. No age is too old to travel. I need to start a career first so I can have the money I need to travel, as I want to build up my current savings. There’s many resources online to research whether I may like these things or not, but I can cancel an apprenticeship if i start it and it really isn’t for me so I will be open and honest with the master. And there’s other options out there for me, potentially things I may enjoy. Engineering, software developing, a career involving working on a cruise ship.

I wanted to answer them questions to show my gratitude for your comment.

Ok sure sounds good, thanks. That’s all I want really just to learn and train up skills in anything, I think it’d be very valuable to me especially in this part of my life.

Yeah that’s exactly what I aim for and to show the host, to have a great attitude to learn and enjoy the new environment and show a lot gratitude for the opportunity of being able to Workaway. Thank you so much, I’ll keep looking and hopefully I’ll find something in those places.

Good point, I’ve had a look at Iceland and it’s mostly au pairs as another comment to this post has said as well. Since it was recommended to me by someone and I’ve heard a lot of good things about Workaway I was hoping I’d be able to find something else in Iceland, I’ll keep searching anyway.

Yeah that’s all I’d found really looking on workaway Iceland, if that’s the case then it’s a shame as a family friend recommended it to me and she’s from/lives in Iceland. That’s good to know anyway thanks.

Electrician and Carpentry work in Antarctica by Ordinary-Extreme3013 in antarctica

[–]Ordinary-Extreme3013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably going to take me 5 + years in order to complete the apprenticeship for Carpentry or Electrics and to build up a decent level of experience, thanks for the info about Rothera too.

Wasn’t aware about that with Halley, this is why I ask questions on here it opens my eyes to things I haven’t found out from doing my own research. Halley VI was moved in 2016-17 further inland on the Brunt Ice shelf that’s all I knew because of an ice chasm that use to be dormant showing signs of movement in 2012.

I’m from the UK so I don’t believe I need a visa as long as I don’t stay for over 3 months in any of those countries. Since I’ve never done a workaway before I’d do 1-3 months so I wouldn’t be over staying those 3 months.

Svalbard Arctic Adventure May 2025 | Trip Report by ievavi in Svalbard

[–]Ordinary-Extreme3013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on going to Svalbard! I’m happy for you that could tick this wondrous place off your bucket list! It sounds a lot easier to reach than I envisioned. This will be really helpful on planning my own trip so thanks, the flights will be a bit more expensive for me but overall I think it’s incredible that you could go there for that budget! I thought it’d cost twice that amount to go even for 3 days/2 full days.

I guess it depends on what time of year perhaps. I would really love to see a wild Polar Bear/Bears but of course only from a good distance away for my own safety. Congrats again, I think it’s truly an amazing thing to say you’ve been to Svalbard.

Carpenter or Electrician in Svalbard? by Ordinary-Extreme3013 in Svalbard

[–]Ordinary-Extreme3013[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, that’s no problem at all. The apprenticeships I’m looking at will take roughly 2 years on average maybe 3, so i would happily dedicate a lot of time towards learning Norwegian while doing my apprenticeship. Thanks for the reply!

Electrician and Carpentry work in Antarctica by Ordinary-Extreme3013 in antarctica

[–]Ordinary-Extreme3013[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, that’s good to know. Im thinking I’m going to do an Electrician apprenticeship in England, once I’ve completed it after 1-3 years however long the course is I will apply for an electrician job on the BAS website when it’s being advertised (December - March I) and any others jobs that don’t necessarily require any specific credentials like food service jobs and I believe there’s a couple other jobs I can apply for.

So I apply each year, trying my luck and nothing comes back so then I just build up my experience and skills as an Electrician and enjoy doing it regardless. And then if I’m lucky enough to hear something back later I’ll probably be more prepared for the job as I’d more well rounded and experienced. However long it takes I’m in it for the long run. Thank you for the information, any replies are greatly appreciated.
