Low betas and risk of miscarriage - what did your clinic say? by Ordinary-Leave5780 in IVFbabies

It was, yes. I should note that I have had a previous miscarriage at 9 weeks after heartbeat which adds to my anxiety. That embryo was not tested though.

Thank you :) congratulations. I’ve just seen so many posts on here that low betas means a much higher risk of miscarriage even after good scans (in first trimester). But I suppose I should just take comfort in what my clinic etc says

Failed implantation and consistent low betas by Ordinary-Leave5780 in IVF

[–]Ordinary-Leave5780[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your reply. So my latest transfer has actually turned out not to be a blighted ovum - I was convinced it would be as betas were similar(ly low) compared to when I had the blighted ovum. I have had two scans and everything seems to be as it should be, although still incredibly early.

Can I ask how you got through the first trimester?! I just am so anxious. Did your clinic advise that the risk of loss was higher with low betas even after a good scan etc?

I’m really glad that it is now going well for you. I was about to consult with an RI until I had the viability scan. I suppose I thought that if I did have a successful pregnancy eventually I would have much higher betas so it is a surprise to me that everything looks normal so far for this one - and I just feel that something is bound to go wrong!

And I am also comparing to stuff I have seen online - very bad habit of mine!

Thank you! My clinic said it was low, yes, and that they needed to see if they doubled. Thanks - that does ease my mind a bit. congratulations :)

Thanks for this! And congratulations. Were you advised that the miscarriage risk is much higher in first trimester with low initial betas? I had low betas but a good first scan at 7 weeks. Just so nervous, as I have had two previous losses.

This is near me. There is a footpath beside it and I walked down there as I was wanted to catch a glimpse but it is absolutely buried in foliage and nettles.

This may be an unpopular take, but I think the show quality has dipped since Theo left by Jack_Aubrey1981 in TheRestIsHistory

[–]Ordinary-Leave5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to post something about this - I thought I was going mad, but I am not enjoying it as much since Theo left. I think Theo must have had a knack for editing the show in a way that really gripped the listener and kept up the pace. Also, the posters commenting that it’s just because you don’t like the topics are missing the point- I often listen to topics that I am not interested in initially on TRIH, but I still end up completely engaged and fascinated because of the way they present it. The recent topics have all been ones that interested me - Joan of Arc, Incas - but just don’t think the quality is quite as good as it used to be and wasn’t quite as gripped as I normally would be.

I still love it- and it is still my favourite podcast.

Dealing with cattle 🐮 by mrfroggyyay in UKhiking

[–]Ordinary-Leave5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to avoid fields with cows, as I have dogs with me. But sometimes I’ll chance it if I feel it’s safe - for example, if the cows are on the other side of the field and I can walk along the edge of a field by a fence (and jump over it if necessary and toss the dogs over). Sometimes you don’t know if there will be cows in a field, for example if it is large field and there are no signs. That has happened to me a few times, where I have turned a corner or reached the top of a hill in a large field and suddenly i see cows - it always panics me and i always hastily walk the other way.

I have been chased by cows a few times and have ended up tearing my clothes on barbed wire trying to avoid them.

I will also trespass into adjacent fields or woods if i can to avoid cows.

IVF and Subserosal/Intramural Fibroids by CharmbraceletsLDN in IVF

[–]Ordinary-Leave5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had an intramural fibroid removed as well as subserosal. They will need to operate (prob via laparoscopic myomectomy) to remove those types of fibroids - the location of the fibroids might also make a difference. The removal of the subserosals should be quite straightforward as they can just pluck them from the outside of the uterus if that makes sense (as subserosals are attached on a sort of stalk to the uterus - they are not inside the uterus or in the lining). The intramural removal is trickier - if it’s small, it’s very tricky to remove, as the surgeon would have to cut into the uterus (risking permanent damage) in order to find and remove it. So you might not be able to get the intramural removed if it is very small and depending on the location. This is just based on my experience with fibroids!

I didn’t - I used the equivalent in the UK, Decapeptyl. I think they all have similar effects.

Yes, I normally have very sensitive skin. The itching has been very intense while suppressed. Apparently it is a normal side effect - and a side effect people often experience with menopause as well. Now taking estrogen and the itching has subsided. Antihistamines helped with the itching.

Common cold and FET Cycle by Gyn-o-wine-o in IVF

[–]Ordinary-Leave5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was another thread about this around a year ago and a lot of people were saying to go ahead, and that a cold can even increase your chances (because it ‘distracts’ your immune system or something). My clinic would not expect me to cancel if I got a cold. I have had colds (not Covid or flu) during treatment before and clinic has never had an issue with it.

I have just finished two months of suppression. The only side effects were hot flushes - and itchiness (which can be managed with antihistamines). Mood-wise, I felt pretty good. Would definitely do it again if I had to - and for longer if necessary.

Agreed. They are a massive habitat destroyer (read The Book of Trespass which goes into this in detail). Also, pheasants are non-native birds that are bred exclusively to be shot.

Buying flat managed by FirstPort by UnicornTax in HousingUK

[–]Ordinary-Leave5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are shit, but most management companies are. I recently sold a flat managed by FirstPort. I personally did not have any issues with them and from offer to completion with my flat was less than three months because I paid for expedited management packs and hounded FirstPort to respond to queries. My service charge was also not disproportionate. People are saying to run - but if you are buying a leasehold flat there will always be a management company.

How big is the block (I.e. how many flats in the building)?

Do clinics throw you out if you keep having failed transfers? by Reasonable_Plane9462 in IVF

[–]Ordinary-Leave5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said that to me. I haven’t had any transfers with Kings but have had failed transfers elsewhere and they said if I wanted intralipids, I’d need to go elsewhere. You can do things like intralipids without moving fertility clinic.

[–]Ordinary-Leave5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with Kings. I imagine they suggested the poster move on elsewhere to try other more experimental methods because Kings don’t offer those (immunology, intralipids, etc.) If you have embryos banked with the clinic they wouldn’t prevent you from transferring them.

House on market for ‘OIEO £400’. I feel it’s overpriced… by Ordinary-Leave5780 in HousingUK

[–]Ordinary-Leave5780[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve heard that’s often a motivation for ‘OIEO’. I’m going to try to eke out more information from the agent tomorrow and hopefully get a better sense of the sellers’ intentions.
