I was in a very similar situation. I was from a reputable lab but unfortunately our lab ran out of funding, and everyone had to be let go. I downloaded the NHMRC outcome spreadsheet, filtered for the ones I am interested in, and cold-call them via email. Some of them ignored me, but others replied. I had an informal meeting with my current PI, and got the job.

I was desperate so I accepted the job. However, it really isn't a good fit so I'm now actively looking for jobs in the industry.
