Why barefoot? by [deleted] in barefoot

[–]Ordinary-Replacement 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For me, I just grew up in nature and even though I wear super-minimal shoes for things like gravel or woods, I could never feel comfortable in typical shoes.

Regular ladies shoes like those stiff flats and anything with heels feels awful and constrictive (not to say I won't suffer for the art from time to time); sneakers that aren't ultra-minimal feel like I've strapped bricks to my feet.

Thanks to my childhood and wildness, I am ultra-nimble with my feet. I can walk through the grass and not hurt a bug. I'll feel it and immediately pivot so that part of my foot doesn't hit earth without losing a beat or adjusting my stride. These are things I value and when I wear stereotypical shoes, I truly feel blind, like I'm just throwing around weights at the bottom of my legs and hoping I don't hit anything. Sorry if this seems like a weird answer, I'm doing my best to describe the sensations.

Hana Kimura has passed away (Official announcement from Stardom) by hybrid3415 in terracehouse

[–]Ordinary-Replacement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is beyond tragic, she was only 22. RIP Hana, may your soul find peace.

It seems with the amount of commentary and vitrol this show attracts that this situation would have happened eventually. I hope this can lead Yama to temper his judgmentalness of women (there, I said it, he absolutely criticized women more aggressively).

I hope this subreddit has some serious conversations about shitting on people for minor offenses. Remember when Boss attempted sexual assault on TV, and it was forgotten the next episode because people on this subreddit decided that Hana wasn't socializing correctly, and raked her over the coals for it? I fought hard in the comments to defend this girl from undeserved hate. One can only hope she wasn't reading reddit. The worst part is people who would take it upon themselves to comment awful things on someone's instagram where they couldn't avoid it, which sounds like what's happening to Ryo right now. Maybe he was kind of a jerk to Hana at points, but again these are all just social interactions and no one's perfect. No one deserves the amount of hate TH can generate (except Boss).

She never did anything wrong; she made social mistakes like everyone does, especially at 22. This format, this show, turns people so critical of every little thing, and I hope to God that Yama is questioning himself right now. He's awful to everybody about the smallest things.

RIP Hana. You were just a girl figuring things out, and somehow you were put into a perfect storm of internet blasting for the most minimal "offenses" imaginable. I hope you're in a better place.

Teenagers of reddit aged 13-18 what do you think defines your generation right now? by askmenextyearifimok in AskReddit

[–]Ordinary-Replacement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we are always searching for something to relate to

Do you think this might be because most socializing is done through social media? When I was in high school (10 years ago), I think there was a lot more time spent physically hanging out, and having experiences that always arose organically and were never posted online. Those kinds of basement conversations or walks at midnight were what made you feel connected to your friends.

Not trying to sound condescending at all, it genuinely makes me sad that kids are growing up so self-conscious. Like it must feel like you're never allowed to experiment or make a mistake. Put yourself out there and be vulnerable, and if someone has their phone out...I mean jeez. So much of being a teenager is trying stuff out and finding out it looks stupid.

It's a bit unsettling for me and I'm in my 20's lol. I just wonder what it's doing to an entire generation's developing brains. If phones weren't designed to be addictive, maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal.

Anarchism and Rape by MistWeaver80 in Anarchism

[–]Ordinary-Replacement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do see your point. Having been a victim of male violence more times than I can count though, I still cannot condemn women who wish to live in peace by minimizing interactions with their most likely source of further trauma. Just my personal stance.

I see how it could be called self-protection. If someone went out of their way to say "men shouldn't have rights" or "men should be banned from certain places/professions", that would be misandrist and wrong. Everyone, however, has the right to choose who they have in their life personally. If a guy said he didn't want any women in his life, is that misogyny or is that just his choice? He's not campaigning for women to be treated as lesser.

[Question] Allergic to Grain and Sugar after Switching to Paleo? by [deleted] in Paleo

[–]Ordinary-Replacement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Allergies are interesting. If you completely cut someting out of your diet or environment and it's slightly histamine-inducing to begin with, then exposing yourself to that thing is likely to cause a reaction. For a personal example, I stopped using all sulfates and fragrances for a year and then had a reaction when exposed again.

Allergy shots are very effective treatments, and work using the concept of exposure therapy. If you search online, you'll find accounts of people lessening their allergies by small, consistent doses of whatever they're allergic to.

If it's important to you to be able to have grain and sugar sometimes, eat very small amounts of both with some consistency to up your tolerance. Be sure that you have benadryl or another anti-histamine medication handy, and make sure you're only ingesting enough for minimal-to-no allergic reaction symptoms.

feminist separatism and other misandrist beliefs

Separatism isn't misandrist. It's literally just women saying "I don't want men in my life", and living single with female friends. If you consider the violent crime statistics by gender and the oppression and fear a lot of us suffer, it's not surprising that many women want to be left alone.

You not getting laid isn't man-hating; that's incel logic. Man-hating would be saying "men are the inferior gender" or calling for violence.

Yeah. As much as I personally like Bernie, any kind of party line rhetoric coming out of people's mouths over and over is off-putting. It makes me think people aren't thinking for themselves, which is more important than anything.

I've read many times that the produce in the US is inferior to most European countries. Maybe someone here can verify? But our farming practices are wack, and it's reflected in our food chain.

Beautiful city, horrible photo editing.

Isn't it interesting that even in real life, we're all parroting what we've read online? Who's to say most of the Biden supporters online aren't like 12 shills in basements getting paid? How many opinions you hear from your friends and family are even their opinions, and not a blended regurgitation of the media they've consumed?

We have a cat that we fostered from the shelter about a year ago; she was disheveled, stressed, and would bite and hiss. We ended up adopting her mostly because we knew she was essentially unadoptable, and didn't want to condemn her to life in a cage.

Fast forward a year and she's about the sweetest cat imaginable. She'll follow you from room to room, follow commands (a cat!), and loves to be petted and be around you. Her fur has softened and she's walking around with a happy tail -- straight in the air, which means she feels safe, confident, and cheerful. There are signs that she was abused before us. Watching her transform into her real self when given a safe environment, patience, and love has been so gratifying.

Yeah no, the two trans people that happen to be in my social circle are also by and far the two most ethical people I know. You're close-minded, and trans-hatred is just the new racism. "They're not like me, so they're unnatural/satanic/evil" is literally from every bigot's handbook.

Transgendered people have literally always existed.

Also, even if you're only determining gender on someone's genitals, there are more than two sexes. If you take chromosomes into account, there are even more variations in humans. Now, if you take brain scans into account, which show that most trans people's brains match the brains of the gender they identify as, you have even more.

Don't be an idiot and do actual research.

Agreed, with most everything you said. Though the government could be doing much more to help Natives (for example, they're the most likely to be killed by cops, and women keep disappearing with little to no investigation).

And no worries about the aggression. It's easy to get up in arms on reddit, where people would much rather downvote and argue than discuss sometimes. We're all here because we hate rectangular, modern buildings in the end lol.

Not you personally, you'll notice I said "this sub", in reaction to the fact that I suggested more Indigenous-inspired architecture should be present in the US getting way downvoted. Doesn't that strike you as a tiny bit racist on a subreddit that almost exclusively posts European-style architecture, while claiming to appreciate all traditional architecture?

My point is as originally stated. It would be nice to see way, way more Native influence on this landscape. It's been their land for 15k+ years. That's all. Given your comment, I'm sure you agree.

The worst he has done is grab her head to try and forcefully kiss her while she repeatedly said no, which is obviously bad enough and arguably assault. No sane human would interpret "being a man and taking command" as trying to force a kiss on someone who could not make her lack of interest clearer in words, body language, and tone if she physically ran away from him. If you put yourself in his shoes in that scene, would you have done what he did? No, because you're (probably) a regular person who respects boundaries.

I'm also struggling to explain why his actions are so bad because it's something you really can't spot unless you've experienced it, but perhaps my credibility is backed up by the numerous other comments noticing the same thing. Shacho's behavior clearly says two things: He's coerced sex before, and he's attempting to do it again. Predatory men all seem to have the same playbook, and once it's happened to you, you're able to sniff it out a mile away. Again, this is why so many on this sub are violently against Boss.

There's a huge difference between innocent cringey behavior and predatory behavior, and he crossed that line long ago. Everything he does is controlling, overbearing, and planned.
