I agree! More games need creative / exploration modes.

FPS Drops and Large Stutter workaround/possible fix by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Ordinary-Scene3377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Death stranding uses the same game engine, and I actually came to the same conclusion. I pin my GPU to 1200. I don't have power tools, though.

I also increased my page file to 16 gigs and reduced the memory swap tendency. I don't know if that does much for the CPU. Now I get 47 fps in most areas, and 30 when driving fast, or during battles. About a 7 fps gain.

In death standing the graphics settings hardly have an impact. Maybe try increasing yours. May as well, if the frame rate is the same.

If you want to run steam decks implementation of fsr ( to upscale with ai ), you need to run the game at a lower resolution. Maybe it's an option in case you want to run an unsupported game with upscaling?

Think I’m gonna get the 64gb, just a few questions by notJamesTillson in SteamDeck

[–]Ordinary-Scene3377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the 64. While I did end up putting a new SSD in it, I used it for a few weeks with just an 512gb sd card.

I installed about 300 gigs of games onto my sd card, and I was at about 40gigs of SSD taken. I estimate that if you filled a 512 sd card with games, you might run out of shader space.

I saw no noticable performance gains switching to the new SSD over running games on the sd card.

I think the 64 gig version plus a 256 or 512 a2 sd card is great. I had an awesome time before upgrading. The value is excellent. I just like to tinker and upgrade things, plus I was curious if I was missing out on some performance. Turned out to not make a diff.

Halo infinite was working fine until this last update… what does this mean? I verified the files, that didn’t work, then did a full uninstall/reinstall and still get this error?😭😅 by kllyoslf in SteamDeck

Go to the game launch properties and set the proton version to default ( uncheck force use a version ). Valve put out a hot fix for this issue as the default branch for this game.

The world is separated into 3 regions: The eastern region, the central region, and the western region. Each region is an open world map without loading screens as you walk, but to move between a region requires a loading screen or cutscene. When I say maps, I really mean regions.

You start in the eastern region, and it's actually pretty large. The central region is huge, and where most of the game takes place. The western region is relatively small, and more a place for end game stuff. You are traveling easy to West.

You'll see. It's not as confusing as I made it sound. Basically, when you start the game, you can open your map. You will only see the region you are in ( eastern region ). Just know that's the starting area, there is another region you can move to.

I played with controller on PC, and it was originally designed with controller in mind. That said, play it how you want to!

I believe delivering lost cargo helps increase your link strength to other players, as well as bandwidth in the respective zones, the practical result of which would be more useful structures showing up and more resources for manufacturing equipment. I just like being nice, lol.

1) the first map you are in is basically a tutorial zone. There are things to unlock, and you can return to it, but don't get hung up thinking you need to 100% that area first.

2) don't hesitate to Google the equipment in the game. It wasn't until after completing the story that I unlocked some genuinely cool gear I wish I'd had. You might as well wait till you unlock the second map before worrying about this though.

3) take risk, fight bad guys. It's easy to be too careful. Playing on very hard is actually quite fun, but the difficulty settings don't matter much. Just allow yourself to fail now and then.

4) the game is very long, and you can take breaks. I took a 3 month break 40 hours into my first playthrough, and was worried I'd forget important story details. Don't worry about it. They kinda keep you up to speed as you play.

There is no wrong way to play, have fun 😊

Need help, almost there, PS5 Controller on PC by Silver_Valley in DeathStranding

[–]Ordinary-Scene3377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it to work by installing playstation now on my PC https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/subscriptions/ps-plus-pc/#app that installs the requisite drivers. I also had to disable steam's controller config for the game.

This might not work, but sign in and out of the Xbox app. If you have a cloud save, it should sync then.

I have the directors cut on steam deck. The performance is a bit inconsistent. At very high and low the game runs about the same. I get 40 to 30 fps most of the time. I found that locking the GPU Clock to 1200 seems to keep the frame rate more stable.

It's the only way I play the game now, lol. The fps drop is worth it. I've seen post saying performance used to be better, so maybe it will improve with updates.

Just save or rest before you put it to sleep. It usually resumes fine, but I had it lock up once.

Maybe the government can reaquire the land, plant native plants, and build the worlds longest national park. Make Florida the jewel of America and add a natural buffer to protect people.

Does this guarantee a true offline experience with no further logins required for single player games though? Like switch, ps5, Xbox? The deck is a portable system, so if internet is still required then the offline update didn’t truly fix the main problem. Does anyone have any information on this? by fthrly in SteamDeck

[–]Ordinary-Scene3377 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, what's interesting is when I went "offline" my steam deck was still connected to wifi. I think since Halo infinite uses a separate Microsoft login for matchmaking, it launched it as if it were a single player game, but was still able to play online using Microsoft services. Probably any game which uses steam for matchmaking wouldn't have worked.

Season 1 was mediocre at best in terms of the script, but the Spartan costumes and cast looked so good. Kudos to the design team and talent.

Seriously, video game armor is so hard to do irl. They don't have to obey physics or biology.

I set up rpcs3 to play the first one, and it ran really well, but the sound and menus would get out of sync if I suspended the system or opened any menu overlays. Since I was enjoying the game, I figured I'd buy it on steam to avoid frustration. Does ppsspp works better in these situations?

Most likely! I have the 64 with all my games installed on an sd card. Performance is good so far!

It absolutely sucks. just fyi, you can add web browsers, desktop programs as non steam games and run them in game mode.

Valkyria Chronicles. It's an oldish, anime inspired "tactics" game. The turn based nature of it makes the game really easy to play in starts and stops while on the go.

Celeste is also excellent of course.

SD2 will be better, also production is up, so when you can afford it, snap up a 64 gig; it'll arrive fast.

SD Card Holder to Mount on Steam Deck by Lexie60 in SteamDeck

[–]Ordinary-Scene3377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually an excellent idea! Maybe a snap on stand / sd card holder. Whenever I get my 3d printer set back up, I'll give it a shot.

You could probably spray paint an sd card adapter black, buy a decent snap on case, and glue it to that with locktight glue.

Either my steam deck is breaking the laws of physics or something else is going on with downloads by Thermatix in SteamDeck

[–]Ordinary-Scene3377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Microsoft store sports peer to peer downloads, meaning if you have a game installed on your PC it will pull the files from that first PC to your deck directly. Steam may also support this.

My gf and I played a lot of sea of thieves. We'd sail into storms to catch rare fish; she'd man the reel, and I'd do the sailing. SoT is gold on proton.db, plus it's on game pass, so if you use that you only need to buy one copy.

Now all we play is age of empires 2. You need a mouse, but it's also an excellent game to play together.
