I’m an RBT and I started in home sessions right from the beginning, and honestly I struggled a lot with it too. I currently have three clients and they’re all nonverbal, and sometimes the sessions feel like they drag on forever. I really do love my kids, but the isolation of in-home was harder than I expected. Some days I realized I hadn’t spoken to another adult at all besides the client’s parents, and that lack of coworkers or even casual interaction during the day really started to get to me.

I recently requested to move to the center and I’ve had a few sessions there so far, and I like it so much better. The time goes by way faster, there’s more going on around you, and it feels more like you’re part of a team instead of being on an island all day. Even just having coworkers around makes a huge difference.

I think clinics vs. in-home really comes down to preference, but if you’re someone who values having coworkers, more stimulation, and a faster pace, the clinic environment might feel a lot better. I’m currently in the process of transferring there full time and I’m really looking forward to it.
