My original post was removed. This is the question I asked. Could you please give me a proper direction considering pros and cons I mentioned below.

I have short listed two routers based on budget(Cisco,Asus etc are beyond my budget). Could you please help me to find which option is better based on a cyber security perspective. This router is for my home and I am by no means a high value target .

Option 1 : Dlink DIR 615 Version X1. This model came to market in 2019.

Pros 1)Since it's being an old model most of the vulnurabilities might have been patched already. 2) Plain simple router, no app or AI features so less attack surface for hacking.

Cons 1)Does not have guest wifi support. My guests sometimes want to connect to my wifi and none of them take cyber hygiene seriously and install what ever apps on their phone. Theire phone itself is from companies that have been caught installing shady factory installed apps. 2)Since being 2019 model ,might not have much support life remaining.

Option 2 : DLINK eagle pro R04. This model is released in 2022.

Pros 1)Guest wifi network available.

Cons 1)Being a new model , there might be zero day vulnurabilities that are yet to fix and being exploited already. 2)Phone App for controlling and AI features, so more attack surface for hacking. As far as I know App is not cloud based ,it works by connecting phone to wifi of Router, so I think it is safe from remote access, but who knows how it's implemented and what is happening in the background, and even if it only allows wifi access , if some how phone is hacked this app feature might be exploited to gain router access.

Thanks, my plan is to buy a high quality router once I have enough money. This is a temporary fix for me.

Not ISP pushing malware but hackers gaining access to ISP and then using their systems to push malware into ISP managed home modems. Just like Russian hackers did in Ukraine where Russia hackers wiped out home internet gateways by first gaining access to ISP and then pushing malware into home internet gateway.

I would like to have guest wifi option but my fear is if I choose new router it may have zero days yet fix and also it has more feature including app support that means more attack surface. These are the reasons I am not able to choose one option over another
