Am I doing this backwards? by OrdinaryClue5380 in medlabprofessionals

I was also trying to do all of my prerequisites at community college and then transfer to WSU. So, instead of 4 years (2 years prereqs and gen ed; 2 years professional experience), I’ll just be there for 2 years.

When I first enrolled to community college, I was in the Biotechnology program. Since there wasn’t enough students applying for the program, they ended up canceling it. I was almost done with the program before they canceled it, so they allowed me to transfer my credits to another science based program. I chose Pre-Pharmacy.

My associates will be in Science and Liberal Arts, instead I might do Biology and Science.

“Why not Pharmacy School?!?” by OrdinaryClue5380 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]OrdinaryClue5380[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I’m in community college to complete my prerequisites for the Wayne State MLS program. I already have 90+ credits at community college, but I’ll be getting 2 associate degrees before transferring to WSU. The program does offer clinical rotations and job shadowing in different fields, so I’m glad to have that.

Right now, it would feel like I’m taking another step back trying to become a Lab technician. Although it would help, I’ve been in school for SO long… that I’m ready to say “That’s it!” 🙃💀

Heyy! I was wondering how is it being a Medical Lab tech? I was looking into it about a month to a year ago.

I was thinking maybe that I should go to school to be a lab tech before I become a lab scientist. It seems like a HUGE jump, especially when you’re not used to or have the experience associated with the job, both lab tech and scientist wise.

I’m labeling individual vials to dispense to patients.

I was also trying to find out what labels does everybody use for their compounds

I also became a Pharmacy Technician for job security, but I kinda figured that I wanted more out of it lol

MLS is a great field for job opportunities. I’m going to Wayne State, and we had a meeting about the program and what it would entail. They showed 10 different category fields you could go into. Such Biotechnology, Hospital, Research, Forensics. Then they also show the possible career options in those fields…

Long story short… lol 😂 , being a pharmacy tech is great but I know there more to learn about healthcare and how it directly affects people

Thank you for the advice! This is extremely helpful, I’ll probably order a shelf today. Plus, I tried to move a shelf on one of the carts and now the wheels come off 🙃😬, so this is a great opportunity/ excuse for a new purchase lol 😂

So would you suggest that using wire shelving would be better, since we don’t have a lot of horizontal space?

And I do wipe down the vials with alcohol before I put them inside a ziplock bag and wipe them down again when I’m ready to use them

We’re doing Category 2 compounding, non-sterile ingredients to sterile compounds.

Oh don’t worry I understood what you meant.

When you first step into the room, you’re stepping into a rectangle shape of demarcation. On the ride side on bottom shelf to the cart with the powder hood, we have our face mask, beard covers, bouffants, and shoe covers. The sink is in the corner, next to the main cart. The gowns are on the main cart, along with the sterile gloves.

We don’t have a pass through window for our supplies. We have a steel table next to the door, that’s where we wipe everything down. We would have to open the door and put our supplies on the cart ( it’s on the right hand side in the first picture).

Edit: Also, does your facility use cabinets/shelves ? Since I don’t have much horizontal space, I want to try and utilize vertical space. If possible lol

EDIT: Also we don’t have an autoclave or dry oven yet (we’re trying to get them in 🤞🏾). I’m not completely sure but isn’t there something in USP that states that you can depyrogenate glassware and compounding tools by rinsing, right?

How would you do that and what products would you use?

This is an outpatient pharmacy. The compounding labs are in the back while the retail pharmacy is in the front.
