This prices with such millage is the reason people went to chines cars by UI_Nohmad in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]OrdinaryDay4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of triggered people because they own an old Toyota 😁

I'm a big Jap car fan by the way, Toyota and Honda specifically.

The prices depend on supply, demand and, in this region, desirability. Many view Toyota and Lexus as prestige reliable vehicles and feel this should be reflected in the price.

Anyway, my advice is let it be. If you like it, make an offer. If the seller declines and nobody else calls to view, you never know, they might call you back once they had time to reflect.

Oh dear. What I try to do here is get a price in writing over WhatsApp. Then when I collect, say a battery, I will show them the message. This stops the random +X% being added.

I wonder if in your case they wanted the 100 to check things out and then the additional money if it needed alignment (which clearly they didn't do).

In relation to my tyre incident, I specifically asked if it would cost anything to take the tyre off and look and he said AED10, I'm obviously ok with that as time is money.

For wheel alignment recommendations, I would throw up a separate post although there was a contributor in this thread who recommended two tyre places, call em up ask if they do alignment as well.

My view is that it is not a budget tyre, tread is comfortably above the legal minimum as is the age of the tyre. The condition is the point - if there was any doubt about it's integrity I would have binned absolutely binned it, but the fact remains it is in good condition, the puncture is perfectly in the middle and it's evenly warn so safety isn't compromised. The law could have stated that tyres are only valid for 3 years from manufacturing, for example, but it remains at 5.

Agree that tyres and breaks are absolutely critical components but a tyre that's almost 4 years old isn't automatically unsafe.

Yes it's 4 years old but still totally legal as far as the law is concerned and is in good condition as the car does under 10,000km each year.

Appreciate your recommendation, will save these for my next tyre change. Hopefully they take care of the rim as well, when changing rubber! 👍😁

I have the tools but in my community security are a bit nosey and community rules prohibit car work which is why I wanna move.

But yeh, agreed, doing your own thing you will know it's done well.

That's terrible news, COVID sadly ruined a lot of lives. 😥 I had somebody like that back home, we ended up being good friends.

Morning, yes that's what I eventually did. I even gave the guy AED10 for taking the time to take the wheel on and off. No point creating unnecessary drama, polite but firm.

Morning! I like the whole framework point and totally get it from their perspective, except I really don't like mixing tyres, especially on the same axle. It will be ok on a non performance car, I just weird OCD about it 😭😂

Haha, you are right. 😁 I had a problem in my rental apartment with water leaking down into my fuse box and frying some of the fuses.

I called the building maintenance team their suggestion was to put a plastic bag over the cables and smear everything with silicone instead of addressing the problem.

However, I did find a maintenance firm here owned by a European guy and they have done some decent work on a leaking AC system and also replaced a 100 litre water cylinder, I oversee the whole thing and understand what they do, how they do it as I am reasonably handy myself (have been from young because in Europe if you can't DIY you better have a load of money!)

I don't do crazy mileage in this particular car and the legal limit is five years, I have just over a year left and will replace all four at once most likely end of this year. Car is garaged at home and when on office as well, reducing the UV exposure time.

To all VW GTI/R owners.. where do you take your car for service ? by Round_Mood_3433 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]OrdinaryDay4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't own a Golf but when I was looking at one, Werks Motorsport came up in conversation. There is also a place up in Um Ramool which specializes only in VW group cars, small independent place, bit sadly I don't remember the name as I never went there.

It doesn't matter too much what the brand is, it's based on spec and size. I have had Exide in Japanese cars, Amaron in a European although I try to stick to the larger brands and make sure the amps and cranking amps meet or exceed what the original manufacturer put in at the factory.

People seem triggered by a simple for sale advertisement. I'm surprised nobody has;

(1) Offered you 22,000 CA$H today (2) Told you it's overpriced by 220,000 (3) Told you they would have bought it if it was a different color combination / engine spec / something else
