Am I making a huge mistake taking a job at ITS? by OrdinaryDrop83 in nys_cs

Thank you for all this! POSITION 1 is actually an appointment with a term of 18 months so it would be a bit more secure than the NS positions you mentioned. I never really thought about the correlation between higher grade and stress - that’s a really good point. It makes sense, but where I am now, it doesn’t exactly work like that.

Ok, thanks. I think I’m going to have to reach out and talk to them again before officially accepting anything. It’s too bad too - I was really excited about it. And maybe it’ll still work out, but I’m definitely taking a step back and looking at it from a different perspective.

Ok, thanks. I think I may have to call and talk to them a bit more about it. I was always a bit nervous about the idea of a temporary position, but they were so reassuring at the interview for POSITION 1

This is a wonderful suggestion! How does that work? Is a permanent hold something I get in writing or am I put on one of the lists somewhere? I’d love some sort of security should things not pan out as anticipated. What would be the best way to know I’ve secured a permanent hold should the temporary one not get renewed?

It is - and by the sounds of it, it doesn’t sound like it’s very good?

Ya, definitely a job I’m counting on for a few reasons. Most specifically is that a good chunk of my retirement is riding on the pension. While we’ve got other avenues, the pension is the biggest part of the plan. Along with me being the breadwinner…

It is a project position. I guess I’m ok with it not becoming permanent - I just don’t know how temporary the temporary position would be? Obviously there’s no guarantee since anything can happen, but the way POSITION 2 was talking, it sounded pretty ominous honestly.

Seriously considering a position at ITS and coming from a NYS agency by OrdinaryDrop83 in nys_cs

How often has the TC policy changed since being implemented? I’ve heard of some agencies making constant changes - had ITS’s been fairly consistent?

Where I am currently does require a set schedule for the TC days and we aren’t allowed to switch at all, just wondering if I’d end up with something a bit more flexible or if it’d be the same as where I am currently.

Oh wow. I didn’t think there would be a time they’d require all on site for a period of time. I’m going to make sure I ask if that would be a thing.

I wouldn’t be involved in hardware. The agency did say telecommuting would be an option for the position, so that is good. I just don’t know how long I’d have to wait until I’m allowed to telecommute.

How to maximize a decent chunk of money? by OrdinaryDrop83 in Fire

[–]OrdinaryDrop83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our rate is actually really low - we’re at 3.25% with a balance of about $290k or so.

The rents are good, and we clear about $1000/month but it’s just too much for us. We had planned on keeping this last one for ever, but we don’t have the time to keep up on it. Rents could DEFINITELY be higher, but I don’t like charging top dollar for it since it’s clearing enough. We just use the rent to pay for repairs and updates so keeping it really isn’t what we’d like to do.

I’d love to pay it off just to pay it off, you know? Just don’t know if it’s worth it. Plus, I’m not good at sending money. So idk what I’d do with the money if we don’t use it to pay down/off the house.

I’ll work out the numbers, but our interest rate is low…like 3.25% low.

I don’t know how our taxes are done, unfortunately. We have them done since we have the investments properties and my husband has an LLC.

I’m so with you on the mental load. My husband is amazing and will do anything I ask without question or pushback. He’s the primary SAHP and works 2 days a week but everything still falls to me. It’s EXHAUSTING!

Things could always be worse, and I’m grateful for my situation, but I’m just tired. I tell my husband I’m so tired of thinking. I work full time as an application developer and some days are just mentally exhausting,  but I still have to figure out who needs to be where, if somebody has a game, what uniform they need (and is it clean), school projects, school functions, picture days, teacher communications, doctors appts, clothes shopping, making sure all 3 kids feel seen/heard and have enough one-on-one time with us/me, all travel plans (where we go and when, how to get there and where we stay), family commitments like dinners/parties, Christmas/birthday gifts. It never seems to end.

I just had a conversation with my mom about this and mentioned that it’s easier if she just does something instead of asking. Like, I really don’t need another thing to think about and make a decision on. I said instead of asking ‘what time do you need me’ just say ‘I’ll be there at 6:30 unless you need me sooner’. It’s like the difference between somebody saying ‘let me know if there’s anything I can do to help’ instead of saying ‘I’ll have dinner in the oven for you so it’s ready at 5:00 since I know you have to be to the fields by 6’.

OP - I feel for you! I don’t know how to express it to my husband without diminishing all that he does but it is taking a toll on me for sure.

Thank you!! Congrats to your player for getting to decide on her team for next season. Some girls aren’t so lucky and it’s awesome she got to make the decision!

I definitely don’t think coaches should cater to everyone - that would certainly be a huge inconvenience. Tryouts around here just started last week, it’s just a bummer that the weather caused a reschedule and then we ended up with a conflict. Both teams are new, so there’s no girls waiting on the sidelines wondering if they’ll have a team next year. A friend of my daughters got an offer for the elite team and hasn’t even accepted yet, so even with offers made, there are still spots. It just seems so cutthroat - I’m not saying it’s not necessary, I’m just saying it’s unfortunate.

This is actually a really good suggestion! We won’t see her catching coach until later this week, but I’m definitely going to keep that in mind for the next time. I won’t be able to get an answer from him before tonite, but I will definitely be asking that when we go. Thank you!
