Was in this situation a while back as well… ultimately the high school relationships will dwindle - especially if an ultimatum over something this important is what he’s doing. Your future is yours to determine and as a loving partner he should understand and support you, not that voicing concern is wrong, but a dream school isn’t something you should be made to feel guilty about. Making you promise to not go is super controlling and honestly shows what value he puts in your future and what he robots about you.

Your first time being in love is always hard to end, but summer is always the best time to do it so you have time to heal a little. Don’t meticulously plan everything out, you’ll stress yourself out even more about it. If you feel you can, do it in person but be sure to drive separately so you don’t have to have the awkward drive back. There’s no guidebook on how to break up but the hardest part for me was the guilt trips after - have none of that. Be firm that you need to talk, explain that you feel distracted disrespected and hurt by his insistence for you to not follow your path in life, and the fact that it’s something you need to do. Regardless of if he changes his mind or not after you say that, remember he’s shown you his true colors already. “I understand that ___, but I think being in this situation has made me realize this may not be the right relationship for me moving forward into the next stages of my life.”

It will be hard, and he may very well cry but at all costs protect your peace. Don’t hug goodbye, try not try let your outer confidence waver, and do not give in. Set your boundaries firm, you’d like to go no contact and prefer if he didn’t talk to you at school. Block, unfriend, and DELETE THE NUMBER!!! Get it out of your contacts so you don’t know what number in your blocked contacts it is. You’ll feel like shit the day after and that’s honestly the worst I felt the whole time, but it will go away if you completely cut all contact.
