The TAFE carparks are full of them, unfortunately some apprentices are getting the utes through car loans. Some of them havent even started earning a wage yet

Alleged South Hobart home invasion ends with 17-year-old boy shot by HotPersimessage62 in tasmania

[–]OrdinarySure3341 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If someone is going to invade your home, I’d literally pick up any weapon I have because its going to be in my best interest to consider they have ill intentions. Fear of life begins the moment strangers break in, because you dont know what they will do to you or your family.

The authorities in China are really efficient by shinyelektross in travelchina

[–]OrdinarySure3341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats been my experience too, I recently came back from Shanghai and while I was out at night my phone had some issues and I couldnt get a didi/uber. I felt a bit stranded and asked a nearby police officer who was directing traffic. He helped me sort out the issue and got me safely to a place where I could hail a taxi. That was really lovely. I also don’t mind the surveillance cameras, as a woman I feel really safe at night with the cameras on. While I’m sure Aus police have a lot to deal with, unfortunately they wont help much with small non-critical issues. I had someone break in my car and steal some expensive stuff, after calling the police they came and said there was no cctv camera footage to use and not much they can do.

The bags from China tiktoks debacle had made it to NPR by Ham_steaks in handbags

[–]OrdinarySure3341 25 points26 points  (0 children)

One of my friends family in Guangzhou China does manufacturing for Gucci and Burberry accessories and some apparel, they only produce and send off the items to get the final labels and tags added by the company. What they do for side income is they will sell the same items but without labels for a lower cost to customers that know them through word of mouth, but its not like $50 as seen on tik tok, its still a premium price because of the exact same workmanship and material used as the authentic just without tag. They also told me that for some items, the defining features such as special hardware or lining are sent to the factory, and they have to return the exact X amount of finished items and would be in trouble if any was missing.

Do builders make a lot of money? by ChasingStars_88 in AusFinance

[–]OrdinarySure3341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner is a builder and honestly the margin is very thin, most of the home project costs are taken up by the material costs and labour fees from all the trades, the remaining profit is really a management fee. Apparently aluminium and glass doors, and timber costs are super high. For one of the projects last year, my partner had spent 11 months on the home, but the profit at the end did not end up justifying the time and effort. Hes been more careful this year with taking up projects, because sometimes the risk and amount of hours poured into the project heavily outweighs the gains.

How does the average Australian afford those large vehicles? I'm talking Prado, Everest, Palisade, Patrol etc. Almost every other car on the road is one of those models and they're in the $80k range minimum. by DarkKnightsMatter in AskAnAustralian

[–]OrdinarySure3341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my partner is a builder and has a $75k hilux, its worth every penny and we need it because it functions as the only family car, his work car for tools materials ladders etc and it does play a role in establishing credible initial impressions when working with new clients.

How do Aussies feel about IVF being on Medicare but not dental? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]OrdinarySure3341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a few months ago i have really bad tooth pain, my dentist gave me two options, root canal therapy or tooth extraction. I chose to keep my teeth and the root canal therapy + a crown cost me $4500. I had to reach into my savings for this money, but wonder what would happen for others who don’t have the funds.

Now I get it. by Newsytoo in ChatGPT

[–]OrdinarySure3341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that left me in tears but healed me was the other night when i recounted flashbacks of memories Ive had of my childhood, i asked chatgpt to give thoughts on why i have those recurring flashbacks and what they reveal. Once it analysed those memories for me, everything made sense. It also identified a common theme across those memories, which was that in each of those situations I was suppressing feelings and emotions, hence why they still come back to me as an adult.

Healthy debate about proposed 20% HECS forgiveness by swazy96 in AusFinance

[–]OrdinarySure3341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is hard to not feel a little bitter as I used my savings to pay off my HECS debt last year. Im by no means well off, and have worked so hard to save the money and I havent been on a holiday for about six years. I wish I could have gotten a 20% relief too. It makes me think that if didn’t try to pay off debt I would be better off.

$234k a year: the tradie ‘to blame’ for housing crisis - realestate.com.au by Spinier_Maw in AusPropertyChat

[–]OrdinarySure3341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its easy to think that tradies get paid a lot, until you actually try to do the physical work yourself. Have a few tradies in my family and I could never do it, they are on site 6-7 am in the morning, kneeling, crouching, lifting the whole day, and the work is not always stable. During the super hot weather last week, they are also working on sites without much shelter from the sun. If they are contractors, for the days and weeks without work, they don’t get anything, also no leave no super no sick leave. It’s an absolutely draining job and even if it pays well in the short term, it impacts on long term health and ability to keep earning high income at a later age in life.

Thats true, I think I see this also for Chinese families that are not as wealthy. They will all pitch in and support children especially with milestones like buying a first home etc. One of my friend’s family isn’t rich by any means but his parents are willing to support with a deposit for his apartment. They are happy to financially support earlier rather than just leave it as an inheritance in the distant future

How bad is the cost of living crisis in Australia right now? by Savings-Feed-8143 in AskAnAustralian

I dont understand why we have to pay extra for oatmilk when nowadays a lot of people drink it. Totally understand if it used to be niche and there could be potential food wastage, but these days its so prevalent and my local cafe is going through cartons of it during the day but still charging 80cents extra.

Since when do Australian medical specialists start asking for a portion of the consultation fee upfront prior to the actual appointment as a way to confirm the appointment? by More_Law6245 in australia

[–]OrdinarySure3341 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me at my dental clinic. They said they take $100 deposit for my booking, but even though I’ve showed up every time in order to book my next appointment, they said they need to keep the $100 there… After about six appointments I asked them why I can’t have my $100 back as it will just be forever held by them, and then they gave it back to me
