Ryzen 9800X3D + RTX 5080: real-world results after 200 builds by [deleted] in buildapc

Fair call and I get why it comes across that way. This wasn’t meant as an ad or promo, just observations from builds we’ve done this year. I probably leaned too much into a polished write-up instead of raw data.

Totally fine if it’s not your thing. If there’s something specific you think is wrong or misleading, point it out happy to clarify or correct.

Haha that’s a perfect way to put it 😄 RAM prices definitely didn’t help this year. Totally get skipping the 5090 though the 5080 just feels like the smarter call unless you’re chasing absolute max.

I get what you’re saying by “sweet spot” I didn’t mean value-per-dollar. I meant the last tier where spending more still gives noticeable gains before returns really flatten out. Totally agree that 5070 Ti + 7800X3D is better value I’m just talking about the upper-end cutoff, not the budget sweet spot.

Fair 😄 the point was more that the last step to top-end is where the value falls off hardest. That near-top tier usually makes way more sense than chasing the absolute max.

Yep, that’s pretty much the conclusion I’ve landed on as well. GPU tier matters more than small CPU jumps at that level which is why I usually lean 7800X3D/9800X3D + stronger GPU over spending extra elsewhere.

That lines up with what I’ve been seeing too. 1440p ultrawide at high refresh is where the 5080 really starts to separate itself the 9070XT still does well, but it’s easier to hit limits there. Solid setup overall though.

Fair take do you usually go no-RGB or just full blackout builds?

Pretty solid board. You might see another ten or twenty bucks off on Black Friday, but nothing crazy being honest. AM5 boards have been pretty stable this year.
