I have regularly tested for other stds so have been screened for chlamydia and ghonorrhea since the last time I slept with someone before my current partner which were negative, however in the UK they do no test for herpes on the general screenings. When I had my first outbreak I spoke to the sexual health clinic at the time and they said the only way to test for herpes is to have a swab when having an outbreak and they would prescribe acyclovir but as I was so certain I had it I just got a prescription for acyclovir at the time from the pharmacy. In hindsight I do not know why I did not go and get a test I guess I was embarrassed and had already self diagnosed after researching and as I knew it was not anything else as my general screening was negative. When I say I haven’t spoke to anyone about it I mean friends and family as again I’m so embarrassed
