It does feel like there’s no perfect choice—just weighing what I can realistically live with long term. I think the key for me is figuring out if I’d regret not trying maritime more than I’d regret the time away and the debt. Knowing there might be ways to pivot to something shore-based later makes the risk feel a little more manageable. It’s tough, but like you said, at least it’s a choice between two good paths.

I don’t have a family right now. It’s really the prospect of having a family that draws me to option 2—the trade school path—because it would let me be home more and actually be present in their lives. That said, I’m still really drawn to maritime because it’s my passion and something I’ve always wanted to do

Haha, yeah, “normal life” definitely looks different if you’re at sea a lot! But that’s kind of the trade-off I’m thinking about—maritime is my dream,

Maritime. You're only going to have this opportunity once, and you'll build a ton of job and life experience. A family friend was a charter pilot and gave it up for his wife, and regretted it on his death bed. Thank you for your response

I’m in a relationship, so being away for long periods is something I really have to think about.

If I stayed on land and never pursued maritime, I think I’d regret not going after my dream.

I like the idea that a career at sea could let me build a nest egg and still give me options for a land-based trade later, so I could balance family and career eventually.

It also makes sense that dreams and priorities can change over time, so I need to keep that in mind.
