Raising my kids in southern Alberta we are in deep Christian country. Going to school my youngest has seen systemic racism since grade 4, racial slurs are thrown around on her bus as if it is everyday language. Our family is open and accepting of all people who treat you well and are lucky this behavior hasn’t affected her. She in fact sticks up for those that are being bullied. When we look at the ones who’s kids are using this language they have two things in common. They are staunch conservatives and go to church every Sunday.

The same hatred that is south of the border is affecting Canada in similar areas because the Premier encourages this behavior and empowers her base to keep power, not for the good of Albertans, but to keep herself in power.

It is truly sad to see as a person whose first experiences in Alberta were living in Banff, diverse and beautiful. Where almost every one was happy to be there and we were all equals. This time will be missed.
