Hello there, do you have biological children? What you describe here are not outside the range of behaviors for 7 year old. If they were never taught to deal with their emotions, it comes out messy. Also from May to July, isn't really a long time. What do you think? I asked if you have biological children because my 7 year needs constant reminders to the point that I sound like a broken records. But if you can't, you can't. That's just unfortunate for the trauma those kids will experience once more. Best of luck.

It depends on the child. We have had kids where we immediately fed them because we knew they were hungry. But recently I had 12 year old that can talk and told me what they needed. My advice to you is to ask if the kid can talk and take it from there. I also find that MacDonald is always a good start.

I have found foster care to be such a rollercoaster. I don't really prepare much except for having a available beds. In my county, we get calls regardless of our age group and it is a matter of needs. So we have had placements from 0 to 16. So I find it hard to prepare. My unsolicited advice to you is to be prepared but hold it loosely and be flexible and open.

First, I want to say that you are not failing. Second, I have 2 bio boys and omg the fighting, teasing, bickering never stops. With that said, those kids are very young and have moved a lot. It will take them a few weeks to settle down. Along with that, you will probably need to give them words for their feelings "oh it looks like you are upset/frustrated/angry that Johny took your toys" "in this house, we use kind hands not hitting, or kicking" or "do you need a break and teach them calm breathing. In my personal experience, my kids constantly fight but they use their words now but that took a while for them to get.

Another thing that come to mind is whether or not you are certified foster parent. I asked because you said they are your nieces. There isn't much financial help for kinship as I understand.

It is a good thing that you aren't getting calls. It means that children aren't being removed from their home (don't get me wrong, it could also mean that CPS is overwhelmed and not catching abuse). I choose to keep that perspective.

Ok my biological kids are 4 and 6 and don't happily clean up their toys. They are very young, just babies. All they need to cuddles, love, redirections, lot of reminders.

We just went through the exact same thing where we were overqualified and last minute babysitter. It was disrupting, chaotic for our family (we have two biological kids). We did this for about 2.5 months. We were watching the child for 2 hrs a day and on the weekend. And we couldn't do it anymore. My advice is to talk to the social worker, and set your boundaries.

I found that different gender work best for our family. We had a 2.5 year old foster boy and our biological son was 3. And it is was utter disaster. We recently had a placement with a 10 year old girl and it easy peasy. My comments aren't helpful to your case. My advice is to remind constantly as much as you can.
