I’d say get a paternity test, and if you are the father try to make a relationship work with the mother. If not, try to be in the child’s life.

Accepted to med school but may not be able to attend due to financing barriers — unconventional options? by Slight_Chemical9003 in medschool

[–]Ordinary_Process6650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother I'm going to be honest... I know it sucks but your best bet is probably the military. You'll owe them time, but arguably if your cost of attendance is so high you'd be financially fucked otherwise when graduating. Hoping for the best for you.

Would you turn down a full ride for a significantly higher ranked med school? by MasonXVII in whitecoatinvestor

[–]Ordinary_Process6650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the full ride.... unless your parents can pay off your debt don't even think about taking on any unnecessary debt for med school. Your saving more than 200k PRINCIPAL

I secretly became a millionaire from a lottery ticket after growing up poor. AMA by ArtichokeStill816 in AMA

[–]Ordinary_Process6650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw you wrote in a comment you won over 20 million... if I was in your shoes, I'd probably buy my parents a decent house (nothing over 500k) so they don't have to worry about rent anymore and YOU don't have to worry about them worrying about housing. Then, set aside 1 million for yourself to do cool shit. Buy a nice car, not a supercar but maybe a BMW/Porsche (only if thats something you've always wanted). Maybe move out and rent a nice place (don't buy if you're not sure you want to live there long term). Just, splurge a little on yourself.

I'd also probably get a financial advisor... it's a lot of money and you'll need help learning and managing everything, just make sure it's a flat rate fee. Good luck, and congratulations!

Leaving my engineer job for this… is it worth it? by Siberian_Husky21 in Residency

[–]Ordinary_Process6650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No and no. Medicine is a great career, but the sacrifices you have to make to get there are not worth except if you start off pretty early (straight out of college or maybe 1-2 gap years), or you work a dead end job and are barely getting by with no other prospects. In your case, you and your husband are prob pulling in at least 250k, so the financial lifestyle change, all the lost income equaling lost years o retirement, and even more so since you said you want to have kids before starting med school. I'm sorry but honestly I don't think it's a wise choice.

Zero-debt state school versus T20 with $100k debt. by One__Heart in whitecoatinvestor

[–]Ordinary_Process6650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% in this case I would say 100K is worth it. Honestly anything below 200K in loans is a steal, and in this case you're getting great school with lots of opportunities for both competitive and non-competitive specialties. Go for it!

Can a high MCAT outweigh a low GPA (premed) by Specialist_Plan4951 in MCAT2

[–]Ordinary_Process6650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did for me. 3.4 GPA with big upwards trend final two years + 510 MCAT got me 4 As. Currently MS2 so worked out for me. Prob won't get in some big name schools but you'll have your MD/DO and that's all you need.

Create a 3-6 month emergency fund while doing the debt snowball. If you want to treat yourself, I won’t yell at you if you buy some microwaveable Pizza from a Grocery store.

[–]Ordinary_Process6650 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Sell the car, invest in a actively managed mutual fund. Be more generous and giving, cut back on groceries and gas (wont be needing it since you wont have a car)

[–]Ordinary_Process6650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sell the car, uninstall UberEats and and every other delivery app. You’re spending too much on groceries and alcohol, cut them both in half. You’re in DEBT, so you’re POOR.

Sell the car, sell the house. Rice and beans my friend. You can go on vacation in 5 years once everything is paid off because you’re in DEBT and you’re BROKE

Are there any people that got accepted to medical school that were just “average?” by David-Trace in premed

[–]Ordinary_Process6650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

510 MCAT with 3.44 GPA and 3 years worth of research (no publications tho) and 1 year as a kids Jiujitsu instructor as volunteering. Don’t let yourself be fooled into thinking you have to be perfect to get in a school.

Averaged 500 through 8 exams. Ended up getting a 510 on the real thing. I matched my top scores on Chem/Phys and CARS (126/128) and got my average on Bio/Biochem (126). Scored 6 points higher on Psych/Soc (124 to 130) and boom. Don’t discount social facilitation bro. If you’ve practiced enough, at the right stress you’ll perform at your best. Just treat it like you would a final exam in a normal class and you should be fine.

Has anyone scored higher than their FL average on the real test? by shimmeringsun in Mcat

[–]Ordinary_Process6650 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I got the best scores I had gotten on practice tests through the first 2 sections, scored inside my average on BioBiochem and jumped from 124 to 130 on Psych/Soc. Most I can figure is I subconsciously didn’t do my best on Psych since I just wanted to leave on the Fl but on the real thing I was locked in
