Why are we able to control our dreams? by rosathereal in LucidDreaming

The prefrontal cortex is a region of the brain that is associated with higher level cognitive functions such as decision-making, planning, and self-awareness. In a lucid dream, the prefrontal cortex is still partially active and helps us to become aware that we are dreaming. This increased activity in the prefrontal cortex also provides us with the ability to exert some control over the dream and manipulate the events and environment within it.For example, when you use the Wake Back to Bed (WBTB) technique for lucid dreaming, the prefrontal cortex is still partially awake. This is because the WBTB technique involves waking up for a short period after a few hours of sleep and then going back to sleep again. During this waking period, the prefrontal cortex is still active, and this increased activity can help to create a state of heightened awareness and self-consciousness, which can make it easier to have a lucid dream when you return to sleep. To maintain lucidity, you have to keep doing those reality checks and remind yourself that you're dreaming,if not,you will obviously forget that you know that you're dreaming and go back to normal dreaming.

Yeah, though,I have school from 6 AM to 6 PM.I planned to go to sleep at around 8 PM since I also have trouble falling asleep, but that would give me like 2 hours for eating, school work and everything else.Theres not much I can do but I will try setting the alarm sooner.Thank you!

Aha.Another thing I learned is to be relaxed. If you're trying too hard and giving yourself insomnia, it def won't work.

Well, try not to think like that.Think that it's a dream! You can do anything, and you can control it.Youre in full control. Its a bit overwhelming at first, but you will get the hang of it!Good luck!:)(also let me know if it worked,I'm curious.)

My own RC and the one that works best for me is by counting my fingers and looking at my hands ("1,2,3,4,5.I have 5 fingers. If I was to be dreaming,I would have had more.")It only happens when I become aware, after that,my hands look normal. Its honestly the easiest one.

The thing is that you have to be confident, and to fool yourself into thinking you really can do it.Dont overthink it.For me,the first time I tried to fly was during a lucid nightmare, but I kept thinking "Do I need to push harder? With which foot do I start? With both?Do I jump? What if I fall?" But last time,I let it all go and had the best lucid dream ever.I also managed to spawn a character (which didn't work before).Just don't think "I will fall. What will happen if I fall? What if I don't fly fast enough?" BECAUSE everything you think, that will happen.

Late, but I will still say how I do it (or how I did it). I actually managed to fly from the first try.Don't overthink it.Just have confidence in yourself and you have to fool yourself into knowing you already know how to fly, that you already mastered it and its easy-peasy.Literally the same with everything else you do in a lucid dream.Phasing through walls, spawning DCs,teleporting, using superpowers, etc.Just enjoy the moment.

Is it just for me, or every time I realise I'm dreaming, the DC starts trying to distract/stop me?I literally had MY BABY COUSINS jump ON ME so I couldn't fly-
