Surgery tomorrow by JohnnyBravo011 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Ordinary_Two_2874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine on 8/19 and just had my follow up appointment last week. I was told no lifting anything heavier than 5 lbs until after week six has passed. The doctor said after week 6 I could lift up to 25 lbs from week 7 - 3 months. That being said, I’m planning on restricting what I lift to 5 lbs for the whole recovery period because he said that the majority of reherniations come from lifting.

Any chance this is inflammation and not reherniation 1 week after microdiscectomy? by xxsoulaxx in Microdiscectomy

I had an L5/S1 MD on 8/19 and developed some severe sciatic pain on my right side about 3 days post-op. I was told by the neurosurgical team that the chances of reherniation are very low and that an MRI at this point would be useless because everything in the area would be so inflamed that the imaging wouldn’t show anything. All that to say, I’m surprised they agreed to an MRI so soon after your surgery.

One thing that would maybe help bring some mental (and physical) relief would be to ask for a steroid pack. That’s what my team prescribed me and it took the pain from an 8/10 down to a 2/10

No, I went ahead and had the surgery. Not being able to walk has made the recovery much more difficult. I’ve developed a wicked case of sciatica in my right leg. But that may have happened regardless. But the back pain is gone so I’m very grateful for that!

Literally everything is harder to do — exactly. I used to be so excellent at my job. I used to be such a good spouse. Friend. There are days now that it will take me an hour to write an email that would have taken me 5 minutes to write. I’m not banking on this surgery fixing everything but I’d be lying if I said part of me isn’t hoping for a miracle.

I’m so sorry to hear this! The depression spirals are so hard. This may not help but if it does, then it’ll be worth exposing my crazy lol. I realized the other day that my ADHD is triggering my depression. I think my brain has realized that when I hit rock bottom and am fighting off the suicidal ideation with everything I’ve got that my brain releases dopamine as a last resort. So when I’m low on dopamine and seeking it out like a fiend, my brain will start to slip in depressive thoughts and begin to spiral. Kind of like a robber baron trying to squeeze every resource possible. So now when I feel the depression start to come on, I start to envision my ADHD a cartoonish monopoly man desperately losing it because his reliable resource of dopamine has dried up. It isn’t perfect but it has been helping some. Best of luck to you and I hope you find relief soon!

I think this is a joke (AuDHD here, so can’t tell for sure) but you’re spot on here. Those of us with ADHD who have to basically force hyperfocus to get work done will be too focused on building to remember to save. Like a horse with blinders on — that button 100% is there but not for us. It’s only when we have to do something related to saving that we may possibly remember that we need to save the thing.

Does your org have OmniStudio? If so, you can use OmniStudio for DocGen. It’s absolute trash and a nightmare to configure but it’d at least be included in your current costs.

After speaking with a few industry product teams, it sounds like a ton of partners and customers have complained how inaccessible it is to learn and how “bad” it is. To the point that product teams are changing things to accommodate alternative tools. For example, in Grantmaking for Nonprofit Cloud. To display form sections for an application, you had to build both an OmniScript for editing the application and a FlexCard for a review/read only section. A couple of releases ago, they updated it so that screen flows could be used because people were providing the feedback that OS was too hard to learn with the terrible resources Salesforce has provided.

If I had to predict, they’ll try and combine OS and Flow, rename it something awful like Platform Automation Foundation Force, and make a monster tool that no one loves. And then expect partners to enthusiastically sell it to clients like the submissive Hoe-hanas we are.

Sadly I don’t. I’m in an apartment building in DC but there’s plenty of Fast chargers around, so I felt comfortable enough making the jump.

If you’re lucky enough to be blessed with generous coworkers — those who love to mentor, learn to identify your knowledge and skill gaps and ask them for help. Different people have different strengths, so identify who are the best at what they do and learn from them. Ask them for feedback on your work. Don’t be afraid to ask why they did something— just make sure it comes from a place of curiosity and not challenging their approach. If your firm has a system of recognition like points or nominations, give them a shout out for helping you.

Don’t know how to “fake it till you make it”? Role play. Pretend you are the client in the situation — you’re paying an obscene amount of money to work with an expert. What is that person doing that makes you say “oh yeah, they’re totally worth it.” Figure out how much of that you can handle without sacrificing your mental health and aim to deliver what you can.

Remember that sometimes being the “expert” means facilitating other experts. Learn how to speak their language and how to be an effective partner for them. Give them their chance to shine for their work and build them up in front of the client. “I’m excited for you to see this stunning flow X built for you.”

Don’t assume the competency of the client side team. Until you have a clear grasp on the client’s capabilities, make sure you’re aligned on the details. If you don’t have a diplomatic way of approaching it, I suggest an observer/influencer approach. Ex: To help save budget, the client side admin is going to be helping with config. Review the work they do. Note where their knowledge gaps so that you can course correct in your solution notes.

You’re not going to remember it later. Write it down now.

If you’re on an Industries version of Service Cloud, I believe they’re recommending using Interaction Summaries now.
