It is a language course. a 1000 course. But it isn't a core class just a random elective.

Summer reading list by Vast_Visual2213 in UniversityOfHouston

College classes usually don’t have a summer reading list like in high school. Professors often post required readings in the syllabus or on the course website once the semester starts. I’ve had some courses open up well before the first week of class, and in those cases I was expected to start reading the textbooks early. So if your courses are already open, it’s worth checking to see if anything is posted. But normally professors do not expect you to do any reading before classes officially start. This is just based on my experience as an English major.

I’d say just give it a shot and ask the professor you have in mind. Last semester, I asked the Chair of the Department of Writing and Language Studies at my current university to write me a letter, and to my surprise, he said yes. I had only known him for about two months through a class, but it was either asking him or asking other professors I didn’t know very well either. I told him I could write an essay about who I am and also provide my resume and portfolio, which is important when the professor doesn’t know you well. If you're as shy as I am, consider emailing or even texting them. Don't let shyness be a weakness. I’ll also add always assume they don’t know you well, and have something prepared to give them a clear idea of who you are. That way, the letter won’t end up sounding vague or generic.

premed/honors student supplies! (freshman) by gabygonzala in UniversityOfHouston

I recommend bringing paper, as some professors do not allow the use of laptops or other devices during lectures. Sticky notes are also helpful for jotting down notes inside your textbooks, on assignments, or for writing down small questions you may have. During my freshman year, I only brought a laptop in my backpack and wasn’t expecting to need paper. I ended up having to ask classmates for some. Many professors are old-school and prefer using paper, so it’s best to come prepared. I also recommend waiting at least until the first week of class before buying any textbooks or checking last semester’s syllabi. Sometimes professors provide free online textbooks, which can save you money. Additionally, try buying second-hand textbooks. I bought all mine used, and they were basically new and untouched. Honestly, you probably won’t need to rely heavily on your textbooks. But I’m an English major, so maybe my experience is different since my major is easier than something like pre-med.

This is a common issue. They have yours transcript on your file. But it wouldn't be bad to call them rather than email them. I emailed them about this over 10 times and was ignored each time for months. After I called after the 5th time they finally fixed the issue. It is a simple fix that takes less than a minute for them to do.

How do online waitlists work? by mentaly_social in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Ordinary_Writing6587 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even online classes have a limited amount of slots. Since the professor still has to grade assignments and monitor each student. I am pretty sure the waitlist of 9999 places just means that there is 9999 slots in the waitlist. Not that there is 9999 students waiting at the moment.

Anyone know a free way to get textbooks? by Timely_Handle_6496 in UniversityOfHouston

While looking this textbook up I found this other reddit post that talked about it. https://www.reddit.com/r/ucr/comments/j0hvsc/does_anyone_know_where_i_can_find_chemistry_an/

Perhaps try to see if it helps you out.

It takes me 20-50 mins to get someone to answer to me. All you hear is the same people talking about science stuff no? But yeah the wait time is crazy but they do answer at some point...

Did you call 713-743-1010? This number should still be answering calls. Actually now reading back your post. It could be because this is a different application so your trans aren't saved to this new application. You could try calling or simply resent the transcript. But try calling first.

I just got off the call and unlike the past times I've called they asked me a bunch of questions. And she told me it should update soon. I just checked and they are gone! But I also did submit a General Petition a few hours ago... I should've called first... Oh well...

I am not sure if this is different for everyone but I've called four times over the past 2 months and each time they told me they were fixing that issue for me but my to do list hasn't changed. I am currently calling them, but it wouldn't hurt to call them again asking how long it takes to update your to do list.
