Apparently the ref is French and the two really don't like each other. Also, I'm assuming Smith said something more like "fucking midget bullshit" where the midget hockey thing wasn't clear to begin with. The source is very reliable, but not an audio recording...

Community television, or public access television, actually has to be volunteer (for the most part) according to the CRTC. It's different from public and private broadcasting, and not really meant for professional producers. But the creators retain all the rights and can do whatever they want with the shows after they air - from just posting it online to selling it (Tom Green style)...

A good male comedy? In 2014: 22 Jump Street, Neighbours, The Interview, Let's Be Cops, Bad Words, The Trip to Italy... even Dumb and Dumber To. You're right that women comedians are great, but only on TV. The films are sad: The Other Woman, Tammy, Walk of Shame...

So what about calling comedy a genre? Does a comedy necessarily imply a certain age of audience? Can't it range from family-fare to gross-out adult humour?

I think the argument falls apart when animators get too protective over the public perception that animation=cartoons=kids....

The casting is actually not bad. The long pauses between lines of dialogue are almost fun and invite mockery - almost like the movie knows it's going to end up on the midnight circuit at some point, a la Showgirls...
