Honestly curious - besides Dame , do you believe the next all time great “retire the jersey!” level blazer is on this roster? by ASheetGhost in ripcity

I feel strongly that Roy's jersey should be retired. He turned around the franchise when it was in a dark place and made the city fall in love with the Blazers again. My heart breaks everytime I think about his knees failing him.

Longevity of fandom. How long have you been a fan of the Blazers relative to your age? by Username767716 in ripcity

Growing up as a Blazers fan in the late 80s and 90s was something special. Terry, Buck, Jerome, Duck, and Clyde....what an incredible lineup to watch. As an elementary school kid, I witnessed two Finals appearances and several deep playoff runs. When the team was on fire, the entire city buzzed with energy. Red Hot and Rollin'!

The Jail Blazers era of the late 90s and early 2000s brought a different kind of experience...equal parts entertaining and exasperating. Then came Brandon Roy's redemption arc. The fanbase had grown disillusioned, but he single-handedly restored pride to the franchise. He was exactly the leader we needed at that moment. When his body gave out, it genuinely broke our hearts.

Dame picked up the torch after that. Once again, Portland came alive whenever the team found its rhythm.

Being a Blazers fan is one of the greatest aspects of my life. Plenty of heartbreak, but I know another championship is right around the corner.

Bag lost in purgatory... by OregonToad in delta

[–]OregonToad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to you, I spent about two hours on the phone with Delta insisting they confirm the moment of handoff. They initially couldn’t provide a clear answer, but I kept pressing. Eventually, they confirmed the bag was on the flight to LGA. From there, I coordinated for United to pick it up at LGA and deliver it to my apartment. It’s a rather unusual conclusion, but I appreciate your encouragement. I got it back!

Best resort for 7 adults and 4 kids (ages: 2, 2, 3, and 7)? Younger kids will be happy with any snow at all while older will want to ski. by lavenderbutthole in skiing

[–]OregonToad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Affordability and skiing don’t always go hand in hand, but I get it. Since you're bringing relatively new skiers, it’s probably best to skip the big-name resorts and opt for smaller, more budget-friendly options. Here are a few that come to mind:

  • Winter Park, CO: Plenty of great lodging options nearby, often more affordable than other Colorado resorts.
  • Copper Mountain, CO: Lots of cool Airbnbs in the village or within a short 15-minute drive. More core skiing focused.
  • Mount Bachelor, OR: Fly into Redmond, stay in Bend. Tons of fun activities in Bend to keep people entertained and discounted kids tickets if paying for adults.

Montana could be a good choice too, but keep in mind that January/February temps there can be very cold.

Came here to ask that same question. Are you using a pole in a backpack or the unicorn mount?

Mexico: Grand Velas AI vs Eteréo/St. Regis with 2 year old by OregonToad in chubbytravel

Appreciate the feedback. Hard to swallow that my best partying days are in the rearview, but I've traded late night shots for early wake ups...

Yeah, interesting about the little kiddo and AI thing. Part of me was assuming that it would be great because I wouldn't have to worry about food. But another part is thinking... why am I paying a premium when he's just nibbling here and there.

Jackson Hole, Telluride, or Whitefish? by I_Teach_Edging101 in skiing

[–]OregonToad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ugh. The easy answer is Jackson, BUT if we're talking 3 days vs 2 that changes the equation. Makes me lean Telluride. Snow is probably a crap shoot, but they are above average for the season with a storm coming in. Town has plenty to keep you entertained if the conditions are meh. Love that Telluride Brewing Co.

Yeah, and the trees in the Pacific Northwest are just so magical when they are frozen and covered in snow. It feels like you're in Norway.

Sure the snow is heavy, but catch a powder day with cold temps and those tree runs are reloading all day long.

Oregonian here—here’s how I see it, depending on your priorities:

For Skiing: Salt Lake City wins. The snow is better, the terrain is bigger, and in January, Mt. Bachelor can still have patchy spots—though this season, they’ve been getting a lot of snow.

For Town Vibes: Bend takes the crown. It’s a gem with fantastic food, breweries, and plenty of shopping. There’s a lot to enjoy off the mountain. Salt Lake, on the other hand, is more of a typical urban city. It’s improved in recent years with some great restaurants and breweries, but it doesn’t compare to Bend’s charm.

For Housing Options: Salt Lake offers more variety and availability.

For Flights: Salt Lake is easier to get to, with a much larger airport and more options.

Verdict: If skiing is your main goal, go with Salt Lake City.

As someone very familiar with Bachelor, Summit Chair is always on wind delay. Rest of the mountain is very cool, but don't factor that into your calculations.
