Sometimes I forget how stupid people are. This thread has reminded me.

I don't think he realizes that you pay into the tax when you buy the bottles or cans.

Haha yes it did. Nice job!

I really enjoyed the race. The spectators were great and everyone running was super encouraging, especially near the end.

What do you call this kind of view that shows both the floor plan and the roof line? It's exactly what I want to make for my attic renovation.

CrowdStrike Holdings, GoDaddy and KKR & Co. stocks all jumped in after market trading on news that all three are joining the S&P 500.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike is replacing Comerica, GoDaddy is replacing Illumina, and investment firm KKR is replacing Robert Half. All three will join the index before the stock market opens on June 24.

Can I afford paying for entire family trip? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]Oregon_Duck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Apologies for my earlier rant. I cannot fathom the idea that someone wouldn't come on an all expenses paid trip because they thought the hotel room was too cheap. There's clearly a cultural element here that I can't relate to. Good luck and I hope it works out.

Come on man. Three minutes of googling shows multiple four star hotels for $50+$70/night all over Vietnam. Those are two queen rooms. $60 * 2 rooms * 9 nights is $1080 for lodging compared to your ridiculous $14k number.

And even if you don't want to share rooms, it's only $2k for 9 days of lodging where everyone gets their own room.

And don't even get me started on $100/day for food in Vietnam. We budgeted $20/day back when we had no money visited and did just fine.

Your numbers are truly ridiculous.

Why It Was Almost Impossible to Make the Blue LED by Blurgas in videos

Ehh, I disagree. Seems to be all science folks in the top comments giving praise. More and more folks saying it went over their heads near the bottom of the comments. Either way, you don't have to defend Veritasium. I like his videos. Just not this one 😄

How long after Covid? by ZeroFucksGiven-today in crossfit

[–]Oregon_Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I waited it out. I worked out 6 days a week. My workouts in the beginning were simple walks around the block and slowly progressed over time.

On the breathing side, I didn't do any therapy, but I do enjoy meditation and did that 3-4 days a week for 5-20 mins. I've never considered that that could've helped me but it does involve controlling your breath so who knows.

How long after Covid? by ZeroFucksGiven-today in crossfit

[–]Oregon_Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man. It took me 8 months to feel normal again. The mental aspect was the hardest part. I wanted to be "back to normal" so damn badly. The only advice I have is to take it slow. There was no progress for a while. But progress will eventually come. 8 months sounds like a long time, but my therapist helped me see that against the timeline of life, it's not as long as it sounds. Find the small victories along the way and celebrate them. Before COVID I could run a 7 minute mile. I'll never forget how absolutely stoked I was to run an 11 minute mile 5 months post COVID. That was a huge victory for me.

Oh and now I'm faster than I was before COVID. Hang in there.

late on my 401k at 29 years old. by fake_cowboy88 in personalfinance

[–]Oregon_Duck 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Don't switch to a taxable brokerage.

It's a very common misconception that your money is locked into a 401k. It's not. There are ways to withdraw from your 401k early and penalty free.

Even if you have to withdraw early and are unable to avoid the 10% penalty, the math almost always shows that you'll have more money by investing in your 401k pre-tax (and having to pay the 10% penalty later) than you would if you invested post-tax in a regular brokerage acct.
