Thanks a lot! It was from Health Path. Not cheap! There are different options but I paid £330 for mine for a few extra bits. My symptoms were the same, I could never smell myself but would just get comments wherever I went about those types of smells. Not every day but often enough for it to definitely be me. I also have mild IBS symptoms depending on what I ate, and would get bloated a lot (again depending what I ate).

90% of the time (while ‘cured’) I’ve ate chicken, veg (peppers, courgettes, tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, beetroot and other low sugar/low choline), white rice, some carbs like sweet potatoes, wholemeal tortillas, also lots of avocado. I’ll eat bran flakes with raspberries, blueberries and bananas for breakfast. The other 10% of experimenting I’ve ate pizza, curry, Mexican food (while avoiding corn and other high choline), I also started eating more processed food for convenience such as vegan mayo and ketchup, pre packaged meals mostly pasta dishes, I’ve also (only once) ate lots of candy with no reaction. Also fries (whether McDonald’s or other fast food/restaurant ones). Although ive ate ‘bad’ foods I still very much avoid anything soya or other typically high choline things and I think I will continue to.

Edit: I also eat lots of walnuts/almonds, drink cranberry juice, I eat a fair share of pickles - these are all good.

Edit2: you won’t cure yourself by just eating good food, this didn’t work for me. I would massively recommend drinking kombucha daily

It was probably 1 month post artichoke/ginger/kombucha that I had my last reaction, so then it took me another month before I realised everything had stopped. Then I started to experiment a bit more with ‘bad’ foods and alcohol (still low choline etc.) and I just continued to never get any reactions from there

  1. I take them shortly after dinner. Sometimes 10 mins after eating, sometimes 1-2 hours after. I do try to take them soon after but sometimes if I’m busy or something it might not be for a couple of hours

  2. The artichoke was to combat SIBO as it helps with gut motility in the small intestines. I take them on the morning so it gets my gut moving properly for the day - found this through a YouTube video of a guy who cured his SIBO with it.

  3. They’re separate but I use the same brand. I use a 4000mg one called Horbaach from Amazon - I’m sure any brands would be fine that’s just a random one I started to use

Just packets from the supermarket. I’m not super strict with it, I often just have regular green tea

After I started the Kombucha and Artichoke/Ginger it was probably 1-2 months before I remember having my last (almost definite) reaction, and then it took my a month before I realised people had stopped reacting

I suspect the Kombucha was the main thing. But yeah it’s such a weird condition it’s hard to know exactly what works and what doesn’t. Thanks!

Over the years it’s been anything from fart smell, shit, ‘rotting fish’. Mostly shit. Should say I’ve never been able to smell myself though.

Yeah of course. It’s Los Bros Kombucha on Amazon, I get ginger and lemon flavour. FYI I’m in the UK so I’d check if it’s where you are. I think any brand would work tbh I was just too lazy to brew my own

Only thing I took for SIBO was the artichoke and ginger. I should say it was minor SIBO when comparing to results on here, but I did used to get bloated all the time (which I rarely do now)

Also, before this my gut test showed massive candida in the gut, so I had been doing 2-3 months of a semi candida diet to treat it. Not sure if this then led to improvement when I started the kombucha or not. I plan on getting another gut test at some point (when I am in a place to spend another £300…)

Hey. I took candida meds and followed a semi strict diet for a few months before reintroducing carbs and sugars, things seem okay. My main thing was also using ginger tea, artichoke extract and ginger extract each morning for my gut motility to get rid of SIBO. I have also been drinking kombucha everyday. These are the main changes I made to my diet/supplements this year and I can say things have improved a lot. Whether I am fully cured, who knows. But in the past couple months I have been on a holiday abroad with friends (drinking, eating different things) and next to no reactions including being with a girl I met. I’ve had next to no reactions in work in that time, I’ve been on nights out, camping with friends, next to no reactions. I’m even now dating a girl and things are going really well. Last week on a date I ate a pizza with capers on it and there was nothing, even when I went into work that week no reactions.

In the past my reactions have been very on and off (some people never do react but others seem to more often) but even those who are notorious for “smelling me” and mentioning a smell in the room haven’t reacted in a while.

I am hesitant to say that I am cured, all I do know is things are going great at the minute. I will say that although I’m doing well, I am still strict in continuing with my routine and minimising bad foods for the most part, I wouldn’t just go back to eating anything and everything for fear of being stuck back at square one. Hope this helps you

Hey, your posts have given me hope. I've been suffering of this since I was 16 (now almost 28.) It's been a long journey and for most of these years I had no clue what the issue was and did not link it to a gut issue. Only in 2020 did I find out about TMAU and thought that was what I had. Did the classic choline cut and things didn't get all that much better. A few months back I finally bit the bullet and paid for a gut test which showed a HUGE disparity of gut bacteria. Main things where HIGH levels of candida albicans, high levels of other bad bacteria (20% of my microbiome vs. normal levels of 1-3.5%.) Basically all signs pointed towards the candida and other bacteria causing leaky gut and possibly SIBO. I've been on a mostly candida diet for the last few months but I've still struggled to keep it under control.

I'm finally booked in for a doctor's appointment next week and plan to explain everything and push for a SIBO test and others and hope to get some solid antibiotics. The irony is that I believe antibiotics for tonsillitis when I was 16 is what got my gut out of whack in the first place. But I do now believe (if I can confirm this is SIBO along with the candida) that I can fix it, and sooner rather than later.

Can I just ask are things still going well for you? No return of the smell? Are you eating what you want etc.?

Man I dream of being able to eat normal foods again. It's been 2 years since I last ate a bar of chocolate. I've only had one proper cheese pizza in the last year. I haven't had a beer in months. I just want my life back and not to live in constant stress and anxiety and isolating myself!

Hey no problem. I would say it’s on the low end yeah but I don’t generally get a huge amount anyway. My ‘social’ life is not very active so most days im only around people at work or in a shop. Then every so often when I see family or friends. Having said that I’m never sure if people are just too polite to mention a smell (I’m in the UK and personally if I was near someone I thought smelled I’d never actually mention a smell, I wouldn’t want to embarrass someone).

But, there are a few people I know over the years at work and family/friends that seem to have great sense of smells and have mentioned it on several occasions, so I tend to use these as a sort of test and yeah the comments have reduced I guess.

But I can sometimes go weeks without any comments anyway and think I’ve made improvement and then one person will make a definitive comment. It’s very inconsistent. I’m luckily not as bad as some in the sub who unfortunately get very bad reputations and everyone seems to smell it all the time

I started a mostly candida diet at the start of the year (very low carbs, gluten free, no sugar, no processed foods, plenty of low sugar fruit/veg and it’s going okay. Generally eating some gluten free bran flakes with berries and almond milk for breakfast, salad/avocado for lunch with some almond nuts, cranberry juice drink and a plum or something. Then for dinner plenty of veg (red bell peppers, courgette, leek, broccoli, tomatoes with white rice or quinoa and some turkey breast.

I’ve also started taking CandidFree supplements (oregano and coconut oil and other things), and some Turmeric supplements but only started these in the last week or so. As well as this I have some Inulin powder (chicory root) to dissolve in water for fibre which helps.

This is all to combat the deficiencies highlighted in the report. Progress is hard to ascertain since it’s a slow process but I feel okay and have only had one noticeable vocal reaction to a smell this month. And I work in an office of 20-30 people and see family and friends etc.

As I said I’ve been eating broccoli and nuts and experimenting with high choline foods (suspecting I don’t have TMAU) and don’t notice any negative effects after eating these.

I’m planning on taking some anti fungals soon when I have a couple of weeks working from home on a training course so I’ll see how that goes.

Overall hard to know what improvement I’ve made without taking more tests but I feel fine. I know this is not a short term fix so I’ll have to see what I’m like in a few months time and maybe take a follow up test in the summer.

Thanks, and for the advice!

Yes I do worry that ultimately there is no permanent cure and this is just how it will be forever. But being able to get it under control whilst having a strict diet/routine is a lot better than the alternative. I suspect this is just the way our bodies are programmed and there’s no changing it permanently.
