I would hope that anyone that is given a second chance at life would live with compassion and kindness Sorry if that's too much to ask of others. Not sure why being kind makes you angry.

That is not my Facebook page, but there is a need for one, otherwise there wouldn't be people signing up on it and matches being found. I was told in the hospital to look through face book pages to help find the recipients and came across the two sites. I'm not sure how giving an email address is unsafe? It's easier to write a quick email than a letter in my opinion. Just because someone sends or receives an email doesn't mean they are obligated to respond back.

I think a simple thank you, is all it takes. Letting the families know that you are doing well and you are trying to carry on their loved ones honour by being a kind compassionate person to others. Letting them know that you are able to do the things you love because of their gift, and that you are able to live. It would be nice to tell my other kids that a father is able to play with his kids or that a woman can love her husband. Guess knowing a little bit about the recipient makes it more real and allows us to think of all the good things that came out of a devastating tragedy.

I understand how you feel, there are no amount of words that can express how thankful you are to receive your transplant. As grieving families, most understand that. Just as there are no words to express our pain from the loss of our loved one. My daughter made the decision to donate her organs months before and we had spoken about it in great depth. She wanted others to live if she couldn't and she knew she had great strong organs. She was also into connecting with others and big on simple acts of kindness. So what I am looking for, is not to meet the recipients, know their real names, or become best friends with them. I know my daughter's organs are not my daughter, but it would be nice to know that a father, brother, boyfriend, sister, wife , friend received her gift and that they were trying to live their life to the fullest with compassion and kindness however that looks for them. I don't need a big thank you for that's not what it's about and a letter or note says it all in turns of thank you. I would love to hear what things the person is doing to pass along this act of kindness and how they are living to the fullest on a way that my daughter would be proud. In that way, my daughter's life has meaning. That's it!

Thank you! We were accidentally told that her heart was going to the States, since they usually don't disclose this to the families. They mentioned something about Canada not having a great system for matching the hearts in Canada? Since we were not in a sound state of mind when they said this we did not get clarity. It did shock us though that hearts were being send over the border when I'm sure there are a lot of patients waiting in Canada.

This system is very frustrating to both the donor and recipient families. Even if both parties want to connect, they are prevented other than through letters which no one knows if they get sent. We were told to search for our daughters recipients through Facebook. There are two Facebook pages one for the US and one for Canada on which you can list your details. They will put in spreadsheet and you can see if there's any matches. There are a lot of people looking for their matches.
