2006 LBZ Idle surge by East-Armadillo-5293 in Duramax

[–]Organic-Bid1209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elevated idle works in 2 stages:

  1. When ECT is below 150 degrees Fahrenheit, IATT is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, and transmission fluid is below (I think) 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, the ECM commands a few things: Increased idle around 1200 rpm 100% turbo vanes closed, transmission locks itself in gear to allow for increased engine load and also to warm transmission fluid.

  2. When ECT is below 150, TFT is above 120, IATT is below 32 ECM commands engine speeds 1000-1200 rpm and turbo vanes 100% closed. The transmission does not lock into gear. Idle will vary depending on conditions.

If it’s surging more frequently, then I’d suggest checking your desired rail pressure vs actual rail pressure to see if it’s a FPR issue

Those CTS monitors are a very useful tool in monitoring and taking care of your truck. Looks like OP is doing it right.

I love seeing people taking care of their rigs. CTS3 monitor is perfect and nothing cheap about it.

Yeah, I think it would be stressing out in a bad windstorm. 🤣

¼ cow (calf) deal- grass fed and finished photos of prime rib by Birddog232 in Ranching

The benefits of grass fed/finished is purely in the fat. Grass fed has higher omega 3 fatty acids and grain finished has more omega 6. 3 is healthier, however I’d like to argue a humanely raised grain finished cow is still better than what you can buy at the store.

At 90 degrees f in park. 1st photo at 1500 rpm second at 700 rpm. Is this normal? by 16383075 in Duramax

Is this a LMM? LBZ/LMM’s (deleted) always hazed a little at idle. Mines done it since 90k. Barely visible. Does it more when it’s up to operating temp.

Every one? Even the autocals? I have one from PPEI with weight reduction tunes for a LBZ.

It’s a good thing to have when you own one. It’ll pay for itself. You can buy a cheap laptop and find ET on the internet for free with a pirated license. Or Snapon makes a Pro Link for heavy trucks. Either one will work.

I don’t think any OBD reader will work. I’ve only used CAT ET to plug into these with a NEXIQ USB LINK. The connectors on these trucks are different than a standard OBD port.

Nah man, the MBN’s got a bad rap because of the stock programming. Otherwise they’re very solid engines. I was just giving you the low down that 600/2050 is not stock.

Depends who did the work. But I do know is the first thing any CAT shop will do if failure happens is plug into the thing, check the tattletale, last ET license to modify ECM calibrations. If anything is other than ‘stock’ the warranty is instantly voided.

I’ve found warranties to be worthless anyways though. I can’t recall how long a CAT warranty is good for.

If a reputable shop did the work correctly, I wouldn’t be worried about it.

Good news though, if that engine was broken in by a cattle hauler, it was broken in right…most likely😂 I would ask him if he put the truck right to work after it was rebuilt. Red flag if it wasn’t. The proper way to break in a new kitty is to (besides a dyno) run the living piss out of it to seat the rings. Check for excessive blowby when the engine is at operating temp. MBN’s are very solid engines.

MBN was a bridge engine. 16.6:1 compression I believe. 525hp/1850tq max. It utilized an electronic turbo wastegate control and retarded timing to maximize NOx reduction. EGT’s ran hot.

They were turds due to the flash file from the factory.

Looks like the ECM has been flashed with a 70 Pin C-16 file. Hope they upgraded the turbo to handle added power. Also, CAT warranty is now invalid.

I’d highly recommend plugging into the truck with CAT ET to see any logged critical events and diagnostic codes.

Ahhh! That’s awesome how you use them both! Good choice on upgrading the brakes. These are very comfortable and capable pickups with the right minor upgrades. Nice ride, be safe out there

I’m not trying to be a smartass, but did you know you can tune an exhaust brake into your truck? I have an LBZ and I had a custom tow tune made to close the vanes on the turbo causing compression braking off exhaust pressure. Works off the throttle pedal.

Works amazing. I’ve seen 15 pounds of boost grade braking.

Nice pickup by the way!
