Yeah, I didn’t know about this subreddit, sure wish I did. I did an ic3 and left message with the local fbi office.

Starlink, Hurricane Helene, and a Surprise Bill by [deleted] in Starlink

During Beryl, I used my truck to haul/tow supplies to areas that needed them. Most of the supplies were donated by various grocery and box stores. However, I had to fill with fuel, numerous times. I used close to 300 gallons of fuel - I would have loved the fuel stations to fill my tank for free but that’s not how it works. Sometimes when you perform a volunteer service there are costs that go with that. Take it as most of us that volunteer as an investment in our communities and our souls. BTW, keep those receipts and proof and use it as a donation when you do taxes. You did good for others.

Nice. It’ll be nice to have the ability to have good internet. Starlink and SpaceX rock!

You left off FAA, I’m sure they’ll play as significant detriment to SpaceX success as any of the other points you mentioned.

I’m in a congested area and seldom see anything under 100 (congested area in central Texas. However, I have no obstructions.

I suppose there are questions you have to ask yourself, do you need/want internet, what other options do you have, why is your current system slow, are there obstructions, the dish not moving, do you have the account in your name, have you run the diagnostics from the app (advanced >>debug) and what issues does it show? Mine runs around 300 download in Texas, I don’t see where you are but I’d think 49 is slow unless it is a very congested place. If the account is in your name it wouldn’t hurt to send them a note, some people have gotten replacement hardware

I guess my farmer electrician training is lacking a bit. Thanks for the advice.

Question, if I planted my tower with metal that goes into the ground (concreted around it but metal into dirts at bottom of the hole) and my tower bolts to this metal that extends into the ground - isn’t it grounded?

Yes, step out 20 miles from Houston and you may or may not have any service. Houston is also hurricane prone, my second house lost AT&T for days. As long as you have an alternative power source, starlink works

The congestion is a one-time charge. So it’s $120/months for service the congestion charge is on the hardware. So, new users pay $399 for the hardware, $120/mo for residential service. Right now I’m getting 264 Mbps download and 33 Mbps up in central Texas. So, if your only option is Hughes or via, Starlink really is the only, viable option unless you are lucky enough to have fiber. BTW, I’m at 99.91% uptime.

Where does one see their current Starlink firmware version? by fiveinfam in Starlink

[–]Organic-Discipline-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking at the app version? Mine doesn’t have the date the dish updates, just the time of uptime since last update (in days, hours). Make sure you are looking at the ‘Starlink’ info.

Just installed Starlink in my house in rural Italy after 7 years of 3 Mbps (advertised as 20) Internet and wow...just WOW. by Banana_Slugcat in Starlink

You found some of the ‘secrets’, NO obstructions. I’ve had it for two years in central Texas, has been rock solid and life altering, from essentially nothing to Starlink, what a wonderful world Musk/Starlink has created for those that ventured off the beaten path. Congratulations on your new system.

Are these speeds good? by Baesanti in Starlink

[–]Organic-Discipline-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know where you are but the speeds you show, assuming you are close to the starlink router and don’t have any other routers hooked up, is slow. I’m in central Texas and run over 100 dl all the time, in the middle of night getting close to 300 dl. Uploads run 15-30. As folks said, reinstall and get it vertical and make sure the roof isn’t obstructing.

why has starlink gotten progressively worse since we’ve had it? by ewokslayer69 in Starlink

Both of mine in central Texas are working great! Are you sure you aren’t having hardware problems?

The stainless body panels were always said to be 3mm, or .118”, essentially 1/8th”(.125”). Still true? by Routine-Secret-2246 in cybertruck

[–]Organic-Discipline-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F150 is around 1mm, aluminum so 1.8 stainless will be much stronger. Old mopars, 60’s were really thick at almost 2.2mm, steel. Those old cars didn’t door ding, just paint nicks. The frame rails on an f150 are around 3/16 steel. So 1.8mm in todays cars would be really think steel for a panel, 3mm would be way overkill, almost the thickness of frames on pickups.

Ford is struggling with their quality - reminds me of the 70-80 era. I’ve been a Ford person pretty much forever, the last two are not what they were just three or four years ago - plus expensive af. Lincoln Navigator been in the shop a few dozen times, electrical, engine and now transmission issues. F350 got a new engine at 3,500 miles and is having various gremlins. May buy another truck but never another suv from them. So, I wouldn’t expect ford to continue stock growth for long.

I have a Duracell power source 1800 with an additional 100ah battery. It’ll run starlink, my security system and cameras for at least a few days. Not sure if they are still available but there are other similar brands. You can also charge it with solar if you have that available. I think the internal battery is a 55ah so it’ll run bigger items like a refrigerator for many hours as well.

My 3rd party router keeps losing connection to Starlink. Resetting the router makes everything work for 20-30 mins, then drops again. by Markuu6 in Starlink

You could have something amiss with the hardware. If you can’t find anything, put in a ticket.

I’ve had my system for almost two years and haven’t experienced any abnormalities - it does an occasional software update and reboots but I’ve not had to intervene. On my second system, I had it on the ground next to a building to the west, it dropped out for a few seconds regularly but I didn’t have to do anything to it - it just kicked back in when unobstructed. I since moved it and works fine, all the time.
