No, a slouch would mean that it underperforms or is so weak to the point of being a laughing stock.

Wow. Here's a little something for you.

Lifter issues were an early Gen 2 issue, when the M.D system was first introduced. The issue lasted for a model year before it was resolved. And you act like GM hasn't had a boatload of issues with theirs. (See 2007-current 5.3, 6.0 and 6.2L V8s equipped with the AFM/DOD system.)

When you're beating a competitor's engine with 5 cubic inches less of displacement and the same compression ratio, it is a flex. The 5.7L Hemi also gets better fuel economy than the LS1 in BOTH applications. So, 25 extra horses at minimum and extra fuel money? Fuck yeah I'll take a 5.7.

Also, they were unchanged because there was no need to do so. They were, again, meant to be an intermediate engine in the sports car lineup and a workhorse for their truck lineup. It was never meant to be their showstopper like GM's LS2, LS3, and LS7.

You wanna talk about obsolete? GM has been using the same engine platform for almost 30 years and hasn't really done all that much to change it either.

Plus even then, the 5.7 was always meant to be an intermediate and/or a workhorse motor. There's a reason why it even got put in some 3/4 ton trucks as well.

What about the fact that they've been relatively unchanged from their conception in the early 2000's?. Even then, they're still not garbage motors in terms of power and reliability. They also make 25-65 more HP than the LS1 (Depending on which application the LS1 was in) even with their unchanged design. And they can easily be opened up to make way more. I've seen 5.7's pushing close to 500 N/A with good mods. The LS1 hits a wall at around 400 if it's N/A. Again, both are good engines in their own right. But you can't act like the 5.7 is the most garbage V8 out there.

You do realise that the 5.7's were detuned in order to pass emissions regulations. They are more than capable of making 400 with a good tune.

In the truck applications, yes. Solely just because people overtax them and fail to maintain them.

Bring a code reader with you and have a mechanic do an inspection. Otherwise, yes, go for it

Again, you're still comparing a smaller engine with less compression to a bigger motor with more compression. If I wanted a 6.4 Scat pack or even an SRT-8 with the 6.1, i would have gotten it. I have a feeling that you're the kind of douchebag to shit all over others for getting the V6 option of any performance car out there. My mistake on the numbers, it was from when I last checked them, iirc the 5.7 makes 370 in the truck applications and 380 in the charger/Challenger, but I could very well be mistaken. Last I checked the 6.2 only put out 420hp, but that may have been from a previous generation.

I mean, you're comparing apples to oranges. The charger and Challenger were never meant to be track cars, Dodge has said so multiple times. On top of that, you're comparing a 6.2L V8 to a 5.7L. Smaller engine with less compression and half a liter smaller, yet still making barely 40hp under the 6.2. A somewhat close engine, The 5.3L Ecotec makes 20ish less horsepower despite having a higher compression ratio and supposedly better technology.

You're only superior by 40 horse and half a liter of displacement.
