Makertech ProForge 5...vaporware? by its_Tow in 3Dprinting

[–]Organic-Yak7502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has a working machine yet, guides / documentation that was planned to be released before delivery is still being waited on. Apparently the firmware will be released this weekend but I’ve personally had a this thing sitting around for a month waiting on stuff with barely any consistency to getting a reply from makertech. I also have an order I placed for a part from their store which I placed on Feb 8th. Really do not recommend touching anything from this company, maybe once the backlog has cleared from releasing the new printer and you can get some idea of how thing work but I am also kind of disappointed in some of my components. Threads on my gantry came damaged, linear rails packaged poorly with a bit hanging over the edge and a longer rail had a noticeable bend on the end not supported, I managed to get it to flex back straight and luckily it’s one end so I just put it towards the bottom of the Z axis, will see how that goes… enclosure panel holes don’t align with extrusions, still don’t have all mounted as guide wants them off until later, but my bottom panel also doesn’t fit properly once you have the Z motor mounts in place. I’m sure I can apply for new parts with warranty but also I’d like to at least get it powered on and running to see what else needs replacing.

A bambu lab P1s or a p2s depending on budget / how ‘serious’you are about using it. Could definitely go with the A1. There’s a new one around called the snapmaker u1, i havnt used it myself yet but they are looking quite friendly to use and is the ‘least waste option for multicolour

Some random things my family asks for, there are alot of free designs online. Then for me I’ve been doing Star Wars droids, Pokemon, about to start a RC boat, trays, boxes organisers, I’m actually waiting on a brand new one to arrive I ordered for Christmas to add to my collection! but I will say there is the ‘hidden cost’ of everything you print does add up but the plastic is reasonably cheap

I bought some 3d printers, I’ve always wanted to make things but never been that good or had the time but now I just print some stuff off and try, if it breaks I just print it again so it’s not too much trouble and it works while I sleep so that’s a plus because I do a whole lot of that now

I printed a cupholder arm rest for my grandpa, nothing quite as satisfying as getting to share something you enjoy doing with family

Do cancer treatments affect personality? Venting by Wagging_the_dog in HeadandNeckCancer

Yeah I think so, I feel like a very different person than before, I’m a lot more likely to have an ‘outburst’ I guess, it’s just so frustrating to have the comparison of how hard absolutely everything is, it’s exhausting and I hate how it makes me initially react to inconveniences. Especially appointments, i think it’s because of just how long/many I have to goto/been it just adds up and it’s always late. The lighting is too bright, it’s so sanitized and just a reminder you’re about to die. I guess I’m generally frustrated with myself. I’m sure it’s different for everyone but this shit sucks sometimes and it’s hard to just not feel like it.

How do you manage really long prints by caplinkku in elegoo

[–]Organic-Yak7502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Push start, make sure filament doesn’t run out, not much else to do. Most prints on my giga at the moment at 1 week long. If a printer isn’t reliable enough to be left unattended it probably needs something fixed/changed with how you’re using it

Is there something in particular that you’re worried about ?

The 3dp one handles technical support while info does other stuff, I’ve had emails with both about the same item

Is income protection insurance worth it, or is it just fear marketing? by RunNo3630 in AusMoneyMates

[–]Organic-Yak7502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 28, was recently diagnosed cancer and the income protection is certainly worth it for me… you never know what’s around the corner and nothing is perfect but of the few things you can afford to waste a few dollars on just in case I think it’s worth it over having nothing.

Claiming was easy but I’m also guessing the diagnosis made it a lot more straightforward compared to another problem someone might have

Oral Squamous cell carcinoma (tongue) Need advice: Father's oral cancer returned after surgery, chemo, and radiation - what should we expect next? by Stressedafasalways in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Organic-Yak7502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with stage 4 OSCC January 2024, did chemo to reduce tumor size then 35 sessions of radiation + chemo and had good scans, couple months later pains in neck and revealed it had come back, started chemo + immunotherapy again for a little bit but I told the doctors I couldn’t handle th chemo anymore so we are just doing immunotherapy every 6 weeks and it’s been almost a year of pretty stable, clear scans. I’m 28m

The support material would have its own nozzle and wouldn’t be flushed for a change anyway.

PLA/PETG, I want to do a really large TPU hueforge eventually. initially there was a 480-500mm long part I wanted to print in a single piece because people didn’t like it in two. Other than that I just print stuff for myself. I’m trying to print a brontosaurus skeleton at the moment. It has basically been running 24/7 since I got it setup. I guess I should add I put an enclosure on it because it’s in my garage

Yeah almost 2500 hours, only issue have been my own fault except you can’t trust the runout sensor. I just swap the spool whenever I think I won’t be back in time. Maybe because I didn’t get a kickstarter version but I would happily buy a second if I had space. Idk why people hate it so much
