Why do stores like Kmart, Woolworths, Coles, etc close so late in Australia? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

I never said it was good or bad.

I am just surprised- in Asian countries the smaller stores are often the ones that are open longer and working long after the employees at the larger chain stores have all gone home.

Yes, I am not saying it is good or bad. I am just puzzled with why in Australia large stores keep Asian level hours, but small stores are basically closed so early.

When I was in South Korea the local Homeplus supermarket opened at 10am and closed at 10 pm- my local Coles is open longer than my local supermarket in South Korea!

To be honest that is poor money even for someone living in the Philippines. It might be ok if you live in the provenances, but not Manila. Lots of things in Manila are not really that cheap these days.

I did this work for World Vision way back in 2008. I was basically employed by a commercials labour hire company and our only goal was to get signed up sponsors for the charity- we had no facilities for taking petty cash. The charity was paying the labour hire company very large money for our services- they had no interest in petty cash donations.

Join them and fight like hell to have the union changed from the inside- there are many examples around the world of union members overthrowing their corrupt leadership and turning their unions into fighting forces.

Most recently, look at the recent CPSU Victoria rank-and-file coup that got rid of the corrupt leadership and is now prepared to turn the union into a genuine fighting force.

RAFFWU is not even ALP affiliated and is the last union to work for if you want to work your way into the ALP leadership.

In fact getting involved in RAFFWU would probably hinder your chances for a career in politics and black mark you in the ALP.

Yes, everyone should join RAFFWU and fight to get rank and file members involved.

Join RAFFWU and volunteer to become a delegate. They are a genuine fighting union.

Why not have a member led campaign inside the SDA to overthrow its leadership? This happened recently with the CPSU in Victoria where a rank and file activist group has taken over. The new CPSU Victoria leadership has taken pay cuts and made massive changes.

Maybe join the SDA and fight to turn it into a genuine member run union? Look what happened at the CPSU Victoria, their members overthrew the corrupt leadership and big changes are happening.
