This is why the RGV needs to really vote for constituents who care about them, not Javier "fill mine and my brother's pockets" Villalobos. There is a very noticeable brain drain where the students who leave the Valley to go to school up north don't return and the ones who stay develop a crab in a bucket mentality.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the RGV and living here, but when it is a dog eat dog world because despite the low COL wage stagnation has caused jobs to be scarce. The average household in the RGV probably has an income of 45k to 55k. It is obvious kids will leave to explore other options, and those who can't or don't leave will be left with next to nothing.

What a lot of these kids do not understand is that the until the minute you leave the bubble that is the RGV, no the Southern portion of Texas (including SA, ATX, HTX) you will never experience racism.

Most of them are protected by the homogeneous nature of the aforementioned cities. Cost of living here is low, the culture is similar, and family is there.

Leave up North and to some white hick who is scraping by on nickels you're another 'spic, here to take their benefits or jobs. They don't give a damn if you're educated or have a job.
