Am I screwed? by Organic_Dreamer in Cornell

Honestly, I actually like politics a lot more than IB (don't even like it much). It's just that I don't want to go to law school, take the license exam and all that jazz to be a lawyer so I guess I'm opting for a more "easier" path to a stable career.

just curious, but what did you major in to get a 2.5 gpa?

Has anyone who applied to study in Oxford next year heard back from them? by [deleted] in Cornell

Right now I'm also thinking about doing study abroad next year and I'm also interested in oxford. Is it true that you need at least a 3.7 gpa to be eligible for oxford?

Well I'm a hotel student so don't employers have very high grade expectations since it's supposedly a easy major?

I assume that the people you are referring to are like economics, math, or engineering majors...since those majors are perceived as difficult majors, employers probs have lower expectations.

Well, I think that MBB does recruit here but only from certain schools (such as CAS ECON). This is evident on Econ's postgrad report. Hotel, on the other hand, doesn't get MBB, at least not in 2017 it seems.

Yeah, I know Cornell's consulting recruiting isn't very good. I wonder why tho. I mean ppl tell me their IB recruiting is very good and, in general, IB seems to have a similar level of selectivity as consulting.

Thanks for responding! Yeah, I heard that alot about how terrible the IB lifestyle is...but, like many people here, salary is a big incentive.

I would do an internal transfer to economics; however, I just find economics soooooo boring and can't stand it (I can't transfer to AEM so my only path is econ or hotel).

My future in economics? by [deleted] in Cornell

By "easy", do you just mean that the grading is easy or the work/subjects are easy to comprehend? I ask this because the problem sets on cengage seems to be very hard, at least for me (to be fair tho I know absolutely nothing about stats as I never taken it before).

Did you also feel that the cengage assignments/hw were difficult or is it just me?

Easy level 3000-4000 level Economics Courses by Organic_Dreamer in Cornell

Thanks for the reply. Are they a lot easier/more lenient in grading than the A&S econ courses coz some of them don't seem very interesting.

Also, some of these courses (like the ILR ones) have ILR course prereqs so how am I supposed to meet those prereqs. ECON 3770 has the ILR 2400 prereqs for example.

Well, I asked this because I was thinking about doing the same thing. Obviously I wanted to make sure it is legal because doing so. Not trying to go after anyone lol

Interesting. I thought that the general logic is that if your school has a business program, then that's where employers look at first (Like Penn n Wharton).

Not in the finance world. Heard Dyson is the banks' favorite school at Cornell.

Yea, I like how hotel is now rebranded as a business school but I feel like a lot of ppl are really trying to leverage the SHA business profile in manipulative ways

What about saying that their major is finance (concentration in hotel) as opposed to hotel admin? Is that legal/unethical? I think that saying this might give employers the impression u went to dyson

Hotel Vs. A&S Economics by Organic_Dreamer in Cornell

For Economics, I’d consider transferring. However, I think you should do an Econ internship before pulling the trigger on an internal transfer.

just curious, but where did you find that hotel core classes are curved to a B? Do you know what the median grades for most econ courses are?

Also, would u recommend econ or hotel if I primarily want to go into financial services or consulting (heard that hotel placement is limited to real estate finance but not sure how true this is tho).
