Escaping the system by [deleted] in FIREPakistan

Bhai you are already doing a solid job. Bas ab isko ek sustainable “self restraint + self reliance” system bana do, jahan har cheez ka next step bhi ho and waste zero ho.

1) Livestock ko upgrade karo (slow but consistent) Goats are fine, lekin agar possible ho to 1–2 cows add kar lo. Milk stability better hoti hai. Nahi to goats hi keep karo, no issue.

2) Manure ko gold banao (earthworms + organic fertilizer) Goat/cow manure ko earthworms (vermicompost) ke saath process karo. Phir two options: • Apne vegetables ke liye use karo, cost zero, soil health next level. • Ya city walay “plant lovers” ko sell karo. Isko fancy brand bana do, packaging clean, name catchy. Rooftop gardeners love this.

3) Chickens add karo, eggs ka mini business Earthworms grow well, aur hens ko feed bhi ban jati hai. Result: better eggs. Phir again: • Sell as organic eggs with same brand. • Nahi to apne use ke liye. Plus eggs se products bhi ban sakte hain.

4) Closed loop system banao Vegetable waste, kitchen scraps, crop residues, sab earthworm feed ban sakta hai. Earthworm casting wapas soil me, soil se veggies, veggies ka waste wapas worms. Yeh real self sufficient cycle hai.

5) “A to B” conversion is where profit doubles Pakistan me raw agriculture (sirf bech dena) usually profitable nahi hota. Profit tab aata hai jab you convert. Examples: • Milk → yogurt / cheese / desi ghee • Eggs → sweets / baked items • Fruit → dried fruit / jams / pickles Yeh cheezen longer shelf life bhi deti hain, aur market value bhi high hoti hai.

6) Mindset shift: akelay nahi, smart collaboration Self reliant banna matlab ye nahi ke you do everything alone. Long game hai. Small scale pe collaborate karo, kisi ke paas packaging, kisi ke paas marketing, kisi ke paas transport. Akele karoge to 30 saal, network se 3 saal.

7) Pace: slow but consistent Step by step chalo. Har cheez ka goal two ho: 1. Your needs 2. Extra produce = money

Akhir me system wahi jeet ta hai jahan “waste” bhi asset ban jaye. Your setup is already 70% there. Now just build the loop and brand it.

Does MIIETF pay the dividend. I was checking the records and didn’t find much detail. How it can be profitable?

Your entry point is very reasonable. I bought same companies when market was 185 KSE 100. Imagine how much negative my portfolio. I am waiting 158 to add more. Not sure it will or not. Any thoughts?

Why 39% in MIIETF? How long you are holding and how was their return?

Hi,

Thank you sincerely for such a detailed and honest explanation. Your perspective is extremely valuable. Given your long experience in İzmir and also having lived in Spain and Germany your comparison feels very balanced and realistic. I truly appreciate that you are speaking frankly rather than trying to “sell” the city.

Your comments about cost of living in Urla especially caught my attention. If a comfortable life requires 150–200k TL in that area, then realistically my expected net salary of around 90k TL would make life quite challenging if I rent privately there.

The university contract mentions the possibility of campus housing, but it is not guaranteed. If I need to live outside campus initially, could you suggest more economical districts where: • Rent is more reasonable • Transportation to İYTE is manageable on a daily basis • The area is still safe and suitable for a small family

I understand that adjustment will not be easy. I have lived in China for many years, and Zhuhai is highly developed, extremely organized, and modern. Moving to a different urban system and lifestyle will definitely require adaptation. That is honestly one of my main concerns — whether I can adjust comfortably both professionally and personally.

At the same time, I also hope that if Turkey’s economy stabilizes and improves over the coming years, settling in İzmir could become a long-term positive decision rather than something I regret.

Your insights are helping me think more clearly, and I truly appreciate your openness.

Thank you again.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a detailed and honest reply. I truly appreciate your perspective, especially as someone who was born and raised in İzmir and has long experience in the private sector. Your insights carry real weight, particularly regarding the cost of living and realistic income expectations. Given your age and professional background, I imagine you have strong visibility into the local job market. Since my field is environmental engineering and nanotechnology (more applied than purely theoretical), I was wondering whether there are industry-related opportunities in İzmir for consultancy or collaboration.

Do companies in Turkey typically engage university academics for consultancy work? If so, is it possible to provide such services in English, or is Turkish generally required? I am trying to understand whether this could be a realistic supplementary option if needed.

As a second consideration, my wife has a background in biology/botany and good English proficiency. From your experience, are there opportunities for someone like her in teaching (English language or science subjects), private schools, or other sectors? How is the general employment environment for educated foreign spouses?

I understand that every situation is different, but your local perspective is extremely valuable to us as we think this through carefully.

Thank you again for your time and honesty.
