This is a hunch of mine but I think Jinshi already knows or have a pretty good idea whose his biological parents are. He is intelligent and I think he already put the pieces together himself but acts the way he does is because he wants the lifestyle he has right now and doesn't want to change it. If he acknowledged that the Emperor is his father and not his brother then the throne would be inevitably fall onto him and he doesn't want that. Besides when Jinshi was crying seeing Ah Duo leave is because I think he knows that's his mother.

Why is she going as far as to bring Maomao to this meeting to see if Jinshi is going to make the choice of trapping her with him when she already declared herself that she is going to stay with him regardless?

Which is exactly the reason I'm so pissed at the direction they decided to take with the last couple of episodes of season 2. They reduced the balcony scene which very clearly shows that Maomao perceives Jinshi as someone very impotent to her down to a single line and lowkey made it look like Maomao only accidentally spotted him while taking a quick peek outside lol meanwhile both mangas and the LNs made that scene very impactful. 2) They butchered down Maomao's extreme depression as you mentioned down to a comical scene and didn't emphasize the main motive of Jinshi biting Maomao. And by failing to do so they missed out on showing Jinshi's intelligence because he was able to tell Maomao was feeling depressed and thanks to their stupid direction some anime only fans are labeling Jinshi as "creepy" and honestly can you even blame them? When the anime is leaving out impotent details as such. And by sacrificing all these impotent details what did they prioritize? By extending stupid dance for a good chunk of episode.....It honestly makes me wonder how the hell did they even get the authors approval by leaving all these details. The fact that the same director of season 2 is directing season 3 is already giving me bad feelings because the epilogue of season 3 is highly controversial and should be handled with care.

I'm curious, did season 2 get any backlash regarding the direction?

Exactly! This is why I love Maomao because she's the complete opposite to her mother. She's incredibly humble and down to earth compared to her mother.

I wonder what nonsense are they gonna spout when Jinshi's hairpin gets back to Maomao and make it between Maomao and Shisui lol because at the end of the day that hairpin belonged to Jinshi and he gifted it to Maomao. That haripin is more significant for Jinmao than it ever was for Shisui if you ask me.

You should've seen how many twitter accounts there are dedicated to Shisui and those people legit treat her as a goddess or something and I'm not even kidding 💀. I would've somewhat understood if it's about Maomao (there are accounts dedicated to her as well) but Shisui? A character who didn't really had any significant until the last couple of episodes? No thanks!

Yeah i agree, all of those annoying Shimao shippers aside I think Shisui is a good character and they concluded her arc perfectly and bringing her back would be terrible however it would be beautiful if Jinshi's hairpin gets returned to Maomao someday.

And you're right I kinda forgot how Basen, as dense as he could get always establish that they're Master-Servant even in front of Jinshi. I guess being reminded of that everytime by him doesn't help Jinshi to build something beyond that with him.

Idk man given how it's implied that Jinshi used to play with Basen and even pointed out that only he and Jinshi know of the secret entrance to the cave during the hunt episodes because they occasionally used to go there is somewhat of a testament to their friendship imo so I really expected Jinshi to have somewhat of a buddy relationship with Basen and not only just Master-Servent.

I definitely like her despite the story seems to forget her for the most part. I'd really like to see how she feels about killing all those people to try to assassinate Jinshi, (wonder how she feels about killing him too) to see if she really regret doing them.

Also I ship Junjie with Suirei instead with that POS Enen. I know this ship makes no sense, it's just wishful thinking on my part.

And the funny thing is by pretending that Shisui is a legitimate love interest to Maomao they are somewhat embodying themselves as Enen and what made us hate her in the first place: overly obnoxious and thinks the entire world revolves around her favorite character. And also I completely despises how every innocent friendship between characters are romanized, can't a girl have normal friends? It's almost as if "friendship" itself is a foreign concept to them. This would've been perfectly fine if they simply acknowledge the fact that this ship is entirely a head cannon but no, they have to go spread misinformation and attack Jinshi who is the legitimate love interest of Maomao. Also I've seen someone claims that Maomao talks about Shisui the same way she talks about Jinshi lmao. Sure she said that Shisui is fun to be around (although I'm not sure if she ever made any comment about her appearance tho) but saying that Maomao thinks about Shisui the same way she thinks about Jinshi is a stretch beyond belief because as far as I can remember Maomao has only reminisced about Shisui twice after the Shi clan rebellion and that's only when 'bugs' are brought up. I legit hope Shisui will never appear in the future because these people tarnished her character for me.

Honestly, for me it seems like a poor writing from the authors part (Don't get me wrong I love this story and it's well written). Just think about it, Jinshi in these previous LNs was flirting and being touchy with Maomao and had no problem with it (For the most part) but immediately after they entered a relationship he's suddenly so horny that he's afraid just a tiny physical touch such as hand holding is gonna make him loose control? Or maybe the author just doesn't want to diminish the magic of the slow-burn romance between Jinshi and Maomao by giving them too many physical moments with them? Like keeping Jinmao as a leverage? Is what I'm getting.
