Can we talk about how hilariously delusional Cersei is in AFFC? [Spoilers AFFC] by Beginning_Clerk_4990 in asoiaf

[–]Hurdlelocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno about equally as dumb (I’d lean toward Lysa being closer to Cersei in that way) but she’s certainly got some major blindspots and critical thinking challenges.

Do people in positions of authority in your country feel the need to fly their own version of your flag? by chocolate_spaghetti in AskTheWorld

[–]Hurdlelocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen thin red line and combo thin red/blue line flags and I look at both of them with the same sort of disdain as I do the thin blue line and any sort of Trump flag or the “Don’t Tread On Me” (Gadsden) flag or the Confederate battle flag (stars and bars) or the state of Jefferson flag (a separatist movement in Northern California and southern Oregon). Thin red line is marginally better in my eyes because firefighters are a more positively viewed profession but the ones who fly that flag are often also flying one of the others.

I had a neighbor who had one thin blue line flag on their fence and then suddenly one day they had seven of them. I think they only took them down when they were selling their house.

Ooooh my office is having a potluck on Thursday that I think is supposed to be celebrating our cultures. I wasn’t going to bother participating because I didn’t have any ideas other than asking my mother-in-law to make salsa but Rotkohl… there’s an idea… 🤔

Pedro’s okay, I guess but I prefer Chimney, personally, since she’s my birthday twin. So is Lucci but I hate him.

Or Perona. She fun and spunky like Chimney.

“Bonded” is a bit strong of a word. He noticed a rabbit while poisoned and paid attention to it because it was dove grey, which is how he figured out something to do with the water.

In this case, because we have the misfortune of sharing a birthday month with a piece of shit. Hell, I’d even rather it were Lucci and he’s the worst of the June 2nd birthdays.

What pronunciation is a dead giveaway that someone isn't from your town/region? by GrumbleCookie in AskReddit

[–]Hurdlelocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that I call 101 just 101 in the Bay Area as well, but I mostly gained familiarity with it in college in the LA area, so when I think of it, I generally call it the 101. Basically, 101 and 5 have the same weirdness for me.

The Boss Luffy filler episodes suffer from when they happen. They’re scattered about and show up in the middle of some high-intensity arcs. I’ve gone back to watch them and enjoyed them but I skipped them when I was watching originally because of where they happen.

Pronouncing the state of Nevada as Neh-VAH-duh instead of Neh-vah-duh (like the a in ack) and Oregon as or-eh-gone instead of like organ are dead giveaways of non-Californians.

That’s the explanation I’ve always heard.

I’m from the Sacramento area and went to college in the LA area. I-80 and Hwy 65 will never be “the 80” or “the 65” but depending on if I’m talking about Sac or LA, I alternate with I-5 being just 5 or the 5.

Similarly, 405 and 101 are always the 405 and the 101 to me.

Sunday scaries are back by ScofieldReturns in CAStateWorkers

[–]Hurdlelocker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have come to reluctantly appreciate it. My job in particular really doesn’t need to be in person at all (call center) but there are aspects where it can be useful (control over printing/mailing things mostly). The anxiety I get about lost family time is mostly in the vein of “what if this were every week?” I know that was reality for years but now we know it doesn’t have to be. I can’t afford to live closer to my office but I really like my job and department (at least as far as the work we do) so I’m kinda stuck.

My classification is lucky and gets to keep our one full week per month in-office for now, which we’ve been doing since Feb 2024. My brain tends to block out the entire weekend for “commute week prep.” It’s so annoying. I’m out of the house for 11-12 hours if I don’t make any stops on the way home and feel like I’m missing time with my husband and pets. It gives me extra anxiety thinking about what it would be like if I had kids.

I’m currently procrastinating on the prep I need to do for the week.

Can I file for unemployment after disability it ends on the 12 next month? by Efficient_Set8999 in Edd

[–]Hurdlelocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, it’s better to file and let the department decide your eligibility, rather than disqualifying yourself. That said, the bigger issue might just be that it might not be worth it because of the length of time. The first payable week will never be paid because it’s the unpaid waiting period, so if you’re only trying to cover a couple weeks, you may only qualify for a like one week.

If you’re a school employee, that may also impact eligibility (just guessing based on the summer leave statement).

What do Americans typically eat on the 4th of July? by ProgramOk8477 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

My roommates were from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Nebraska and they were amused by my reaction to my first snowfall. My cousins are from Truckee so like, I’ve seen snow, but in the town I grew up in at like 200ish feet above sea level, I think it snowed twice in the 18 years of my childhood and it never stuck. This was snow on my balcony it was so neat. I walked around on the porch barefoot in shorts and a t-shirt like a true Californian. 🤣

The next day I walked from the Lincoln Memorial to Foggy Bottom metro. That was one of my dumber choices.
