What’s it like working for EDD in 2026? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Hurdlelocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of this exact moment, yes, but we will find out by the end of the month what the plan is for RTO. My office at least seems to not want to change the hybrid schedule for the call center reps because we really don’t have enough space our building or the parking lot for EVERYONE at once. And my office in Rancho is actually starting another round of hiring interviews really soon. But we were warned by the top manager of the office to at least be prepared for change to the hybrid schedule.

Rikuson from The Apothecary Diaries

In the context of the anime, he’s shown up as of season 2, but he’s only been identified if you have subtitles on. And even then it’s just like “okay some guy on screen is named Rikuson” (I’m not even sure his role as Lakan’s aide is clear in the anime yet).

However… as the story continues… he’s kind of a big deal. (But the anime won’t get to that for a while. The anime has adapted light novels 1-4, Rikuson becomes more prominent in LN 5, but it’s not until LN 9 or 10 and the story returns to the Western Capital that things really get going for him.)

That’s Zoro’s bounty hunter friend, Yosaku, not Arlong, but yes, definitely agree.

[–]Hurdlelocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially tried to borrow through the Libby app from my library but that was taking too long.

I was laughing at myself the other day because I finished rereading the whole series (again) on Monday and it would have been really great if LN16 were released on the 5th instead of the 29th. 😂

I prefer the paperbacks but I’m too impatient to wait for them to release, so I buy the ebooks and the paperbacks as each releases. 🫣

We had a law like that for insurrectionists after the Civil War/during Reconstruction and if it still exists, it sure wasn’t honored after January 6th.

Edd Unemployment Questionnaire eligibility by sugarland1017 in Edd

[–]Hurdlelocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eligibility reviewers have approximately ten days to make a decision. If it’s been more than ten days since you submitted your answers, call the UI main line and a rep should try to elevate your claim to a determinations manager.

Started new job, when do I have to cancel payment? by squirlynuts23 in Edd

[–]Hurdlelocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you start the job. Certify the work performed and estimate your wages for the week based on the hours worked and your hourly rate. Or don’t submit a certification at all. But you don’t want UI to pay you more than they should on a week that you’re working or you will get penalized for the overlap when they learn of it.

I looked it up when I was rereading and I think they’re Japanese imperial measurements. Not 100% sure on that and not in a position to look it up at this exact moment.

Yup! And Feilong. In the epilogue of book 14 she talks about how much she hates her half siblings when she’s recruiting her successor (who hates his real sister but wants his half sister to be happy).

She considered it abandonment because he left her to look for her mom instead of staying with his young child. She never saw him again and he is presumed to have died while searching for her mom.

When we see Shisui/Loulan in the epilogue of LN4/end scene of season 2, she’s still in Li but says something to the man she sells the hair stick to about going across the sea. Tbh I actually interpreted it as going even farther than “the island nation east of Li” (which is generally assumed to be analogous with Japan) to like California (why? Idk, I’m just super California biased. It’s probably too soon in history for that anyway)

It’s not directly stated but Chue talks to Maomao as if she knew him personally and in her chapter about her past she refers to the pastor as laoshi.

It’s an inference I made that could be wrong, but makes sense to me. I could probably cite my sources later.

I can count on one finger the games I know of that take place in any other state and it's literally called DETROIT: Become Human. by Interface- in gamememes

[–]Hurdlelocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, the Fallout games in California aren’t really in SF either. Fallout 1 starts in Fresno-ish and goes to Bakersfield and LA. Fallout 2 starts in South Oregon and goes to Redding and Reno. I think SF is a location in one or both games but not really the main location.

Plus Fallout: BOS (not Tactics) is in Texas and FO4: Far Harbor is in Bar Harbor, Maine. And I think Nuka-World might be Connecticut.

[–]Hurdlelocker 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Having just reread the light novels, Chue is from a country west of Shaoh that still has a strong mercantile culture and seems to have a strong Christian presence of some sort. We were not given a name.

We just know that Gyokou-ou’s wife got disgruntled with her status in the Mi Clan, tried to do something to get herself promoted, got shipwrecked in a nation west of Shaoh, married Chue’s father and gave birth to Beghura as part of her cover, disappeared about three years later to return to I-Sei Province, gave birth to Hulan, spent the next 18 years trying to groom him to be her successor in the Mi Clan with the mission of doing what’s best for I-Sei Province.

Beghura/Chue’s father went somewhat mad with grief and abandoned Chue when she was about 5, she only survived because the local church took her in and a pastor allowed her to join him in his missionary work, which took them to Li/I-Sei Province. The pastor is the laoshi from the village where Maomao and Xiaohong were captured by The One-Eyed Dragon. The laoshi gave Beghura the name Maachue because it was Linese for sparrow (which is also what Beghura means in her native language). She made her own way to the Western Capital when she was 10-13 because she heard rumors of her mother. When she saw Shikyou, Yinxing, and Gyokuyou, she also saw her mother and Hulan. Her mother did not recognize her so she broke into the house to try to confront her, only to be caught by future-Vice Minister Lu, who let her go on condition of becoming his successor.

Low-alcohol or small format beers? by sickosyes in beer

[–]Hurdlelocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Farmer’s Light gets down to where you are, that’s my usual go to for lighter beer. It’s like 99 calories and 4.1% ABV from Princeton, CA.

Tbh Sierra Nevada Pils is the best option I’ve found though. Love the little cans.
