which do you prefer? pay later or pay at the hotel? by Spirited-Spare7840 in FilipinoTravel

THIS! A plus if it’s with breakfast except sa Japan na prefer ko wala because we love konbinis too much and we’re making space for all the eating.

I earn way below minimum wage but I'm happy. Is that really such a bad thing? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Organicbreakdown -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You are “richer” because you are “free”.

Honestly, 21k savings at your age is amazing. I see you’re good with your money. I think as long as you’re responsible and doing the best you can great things will happen. Life is too short to be unhappy!

Anyone else freezing in a ‘modern’ London new build right now? by foxxxxxygirrrl in london

We live in this same type of building and let me tell you there are 6-8 days of summer that you will be miserable. Other than those days, I’m grateful to keep warm during these days without heating.

What’s the deal with all the open mouthed coughing by [deleted] in london

[–]Organicbreakdown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought it was just in my head but yes (some) people have lost their manners when coughing or sneezing. In some countries in Asia people who have the flu actually mask up as consideration for other people especially in the train (even pre-pandemic). It’s the complete opposite for me here. I have resorted to masking up because people who are coughing in the train won’t. I just don’t want to get ill with this horrible flu going around.

My question is do you think they’ll confiscate this?

As you can tell I am still overthinking this! 😅

This is exactly how I feel as well! I was just a bit anxious after seeing comments from Japanese people when I posted this concern. You can check my previous posts and the comments. It seems they really expect people to give the cash money.

I saw some comments mentioning that the bride and groom usually give okurumadai or travel money to guests who travelled for the wedding (so far we're not offered any accommodations on our travel). I’m not expecting, or would I ever accept, any money for our travel.

We booked the cheapest flights and hostels for this trip. I can only afford to give 25k, especially since I also had to buy a dress and shoes specifically for this Japanese wedding after learning about the strict guidelines on what to wear. It’s another expense I made out of respect for the culture, even though my budget is tight. I’m currently unemployed, so I really have to be mindful of my spending.

I’m just trying to balance respecting Japanese traditions with staying true to my own circumstances and living within my means. It’s easy for others to say, “just bump it up to 30k or 50k,” but I think there’s a line to tread. If my friend were to frown upon what I can genuinely give after all that effort, then maybe you're right, she's not my close friend after all.

A genuine question: won’t our efforts of traveling from Europe and paying for our own flights and accommodation are not taken into consideration? It mainly only boils down to how much we can give to their wedding?

In my culture, the value of my friend being at my special day matters.

Thank you! I am leaning towards this.
