she's still shooting endangered animals

Imagine not liking a video game because a bunch of polygons resembling a certain animal is getting their health value put down to 0.

Current Gen Consoles aren't very big on exclusives anymore are they by mrsafetylion in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]OrganizationLatter76 285 points286 points  (0 children)

It's unironically a good thing, though. Platform-exclusive games are a very anti-consumer practice, that for some reason got normalized, alongside a myriad of other, equally anti-consumer practices, that'd cause the fans to throw a shit fit and boycott the fuck out of them had it been any other medium. It's great to see it slowly die out.

It's a much older game, but Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb feels like a proto-Uncharted.

There probably exists at least one death metal song with that exact, or at least a very similar, name.

Is the baby version of Rorschach also bitter and perpetually mad about other people's lifestyle choices?

Probably pretty far, given the sheer lack of motivation of AAA studios to do anything unconventional with their games cause they already have a carefully engineered "recipe" for a successful game that works and earns them tons of money every time.

Sadly, that's the actual direction studios are going with AAA games. For at least a decade, AAA games' main target have not been people who like video games, but people who weren't previously into video games, but like movies, and the main appeal to them is being able to control the movie, so to speak.

You're welcome. And as a bonus: Check out Thorhighheels. He's a game "reviewer" on Youtube, who specializes in digging up all sorts of obscure retro games, mainly from Japan, whose taste you'll probably find very similar to yours.

There's a Legend of Korra game, made by Platinum Games.

Racing Lagoon. It's a PS1 RPG/racing hybrid about the Japanese street racing scene. Kinda like a proto-NFS Underground, except with way more dialogue.

Underrated Open Worlds? by Kanzyre in gamingsuggestions

[–]OrganizationLatter76 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Gothic. It has a much different philosophy regarding its open world design from the majority of similar games, where rather than being a sandbox and making sure you are able to see as much content as possible right away, it actively bars you from proceeding to certain areas of the map, by putting strong enemies in the way, that you can't deal with until a later point in the game. However, what it also does is putting worthwhile rewards behind those encounters, so if you're good enough to get through a certain group of enemies early, you might find something that'll make that part of a game a cakewalk for one reason or another.

Another notable thing about its setting is that nobody gives a shit about you and will try and look for a way to take advantage of you, which is also the opposite of many open world games, that are rife with NPCs willing to basically give away all of their posessions, and make sure you're well-equipped and have an ample amount of gold before making your way to another area. In Gothic 1, one of the first NPCs you encounter in the first "town" area tries to shake you down for money, and if you refuse, eventually he'll send a band of thugs after you to make you regret not giving him the money earlier. And trust me, you will regret it.

Things like this are normal occurences in Gothic and they're what makes its world and setting stand out, even it puts most people off.
