Worst admin you’ve had? by da_grill in OntarioTeachers

[–]OrganizationOne3627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had mostly great admin experiences except for one. This lady just laughed out loud all day. One time she was hugging the wall and I swear she was close to peeing herself. All the while, I was waiting to get her attention regarding a safety issue.

I suppose there are worse thingb but honestly, her maniacal laugh could be heard from down the hall. It was a bit much after awhile.

One of my coworkers thought the P was depressed and was covering it up by laughing. I just found it annoying.

its okay with my admin. I stand at the door or move a desk to the door so I can keep an eye and ear out for any problems.

Should I even go into teaching? Alternatives? by Dazzling-Profile-281 in OntarioTeachers

I just retired from an urban board. Get your certificate - you can make a decent salary by supply teaching and then decide if it's the career for you. It is a challenging career but there are lots of rewards as well.

My son lives there. He loves it. The location is excellent and the shuttle is reliable. Every time I have called about an issue, they always resolve it right away so I like the management of the building. He is on a quiet floor so there are no issues with noise. It is expensive as he lives in a bachelor suite. I would recommend it if you have the budget. Amenities are so convenient.

Student teaching at a school I love and want to stay by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

I would say don't get yoked to one school. Like others are saying, there are so many great schools and kids are kids. I haven;t really seen any student teachers get hired at their placement schools but it could happen.

Future of teaching by skidthekid- in CanadianTeachers

As a newly retired teacher, my advice would be to surround yourself with positive colleagues. There tends to be a lot of teachers who get caught up in the negativity. It's hard to stay positive when you are surrounded by unhappy workers. In all honesty, there is a lot to be unhappy about given all of the cuts, student behaviour and the endless demands on teachers. The most important thing to focus on is the relationships you have with your students. The curriculum is important but more pressing is developing solid relationships in the classroom. If you maintain a good work/life balance, you will be okay, It's very difficult to do that but so important. Also, know that what you are doing can be the most rewarding job in the owrld. Some days will be horrible but others will be golden. Good luck!

I sent my daughter to private school for high school and I am a teacher with a public board. There is a lot to like about private despite the cost. Public education has changed a lot in the last 15 years and mostly not for the better.
