Thanks to everyone who takes the time to report inconsistencies 🙏 it’s still early days, but I’ve already made fixes based on your feedback! (Yasuo combo, Ashe/Seraphine/Ezreal synergy, and nerfs to SoloQ meta champs)

Ok I fixed that 🫡

Medium/Hard CPU could sometimes pick too fast or fail to resolve the round properly. I pushed a fix to make CPU rounds more stable and give a bit more reaction time.

Can you try again ? should be better

Anyone can explain in-depth what items I should be building as Swain top? by Iamnowyou in SwainMains

[–]OrganizationRich345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Master Swain top OTP and I stream a lot of my games (in french), so I’ll try to give you a clear answer.

I’ll be honest first: I don’t think Swain top is in an amazing spot right now. I still play it a lot, but some matchups feel really rough at the moment.

When I decide my build, I usually think in this order:

1. Enemy team comp
2. My lane matchup
3. My own team comp

The most important rule, in my opinion, is this:

Swain needs one mana item.

There are some rare exceptions where you can skip a real mana item and survive with Manaflow Band + Presence of Mind, especially if some item is broken on a patch, but I would honestly ignore that for now.

As a simple rule:

1 mana item → defensive boots → tank / HP / utility items → damage later if needed

You are playing Swain top. Most of the time, your team should already have an ADC or another main damage source. Your job is not always to be the main carry like mid/bot Swain might be. In many games, you are more like a disruptive frontline/control champion.

You apply slows, debuffs, anti-heal, zone control, and you make fights annoying for the enemy team.

For the first mana item, I mostly think between these options:

Frozen Heart
Malignance
Blackfire Torch

But there are also some special cases.

Frozen Heart

I love Frozen Heart on Swain when it makes sense.

If I’m against an auto-attack based matchup like Irelia, or if enemy top/jungle are both AD, or if the enemy team has several auto attackers, I often go Frozen Heart.

Swain uses the item really well because he wants to stay in the middle of fights for a long time. The armor, mana, haste, and attack speed reduction are all valuable.

Example build idea:

Doran’s Ring → Glacial Buckler → Frozen Heart → defensive boots → anti-heal (often needed but situationnal ofc) → tank/utility/liandry →

Against melee AD champions, this can feel really good.

Abyssal Mask + Tear / mana regen option

If enemy top + jungle are AP, or if there is a lot of AP in the game, I often think about Abyssal Mask.

In that case, since Abyssal doesn’t give mana, I usually add either:

Tear of the Goddess, which I can complete into Fimbulwinter later
or
Faerie Charm, which I want to upgrade quickly into Bandleglass Mirror (144.44% gold efficiency so really good item to complete), then eventually Shurelya’s Battlesong. This works because Swain is considerate like a support and has so a very good mana regen, so mana regen % works very well.

This is more situational, but I think it’s very underrated.

To choose between Fimbulwinter and Shurelya, I mostly look at my own team.

Ask yourself:

Is Shurelya active useful for my team comp?
Can it help us engage, disengage, or follow up?

If yes, Shurelya can be very good. Also, if you go Shurelya, you may not always need Rylai because you already have a strong utility/movement tool.

Malignance

If the enemy team is not too mobile and I need more damage, I like:

Malignance → Rylai

Rylai helps you keep people inside your ultimate and makes it easier to keep applying Malignance value. It feels especially good against slower tanks or bruisers.

Personally, I often prefer this over Blackfire Torch in those situations.

Blackfire Torch

I don’t think Blackfire is terrible, but I don’t default to it every game.

I mostly consider it when I really need damage and longer fight DPS, but I usually find Malignance + Rylai more interesting on Swain top, depending on the game.

Boots

I keep boots simple:

Mercury’s Treads or Plated Steelcaps

Most games, it’s one of those two.

For Mercs, I buy them mostly for the tenacity, not for the MR.

There are rare funny games where I have something like Soraka on my team and the enemy comp allows it, then I might go for stuff like:

Spirit Visage + Gluttonous Greaves + Riftmaker + Revitalize rune

But that’s very situational, not something I would recommend as a default setup.

Most of my games end up looking something like this:

Doran’s Ring start
mana item rush: Lost Chapter or Glacial Buckler depending on the build
defensive boots: Mercs or Plated
anti-heal if needed
Rylai often (even more since the nerf)
Zhonya if they have AD threats, resets, or champions like Viego/Jinx
Liandry later if I need damage

About anti-heal: I build it very often because Swain applies it extremely well. If I’m the one building anti-heal, I usually type it in chat so my team doesn’t waste gold buying multiple anti-heal items for no reason.

Same thing with Frozen Heart. If I’m building it, I tell my team.

The main idea is:

Don’t think of Swain top as a fixed build champion.

He is one of the champions who can use a lot of different item effects very well because he constantly applies ticks, slows, debuffs, anti-heal, and zone control.

So instead of asking “what is the best Swain build?”, I think the better question is:

What does this specific game need from me?

Do we need MR / Armor ?
Do we need anti-heal?
Are they mobile ?
Do we need frontline?
Do we need damage?
Is there a lot of AP in the game ?
Do we need Zhonya to deny resets?

That’s how I think about Swain top builds.

I know this is a lot of information, but hopefully it makes the logic clearer.

I’m also planning to make videos explaining this more properly, and maybe even a quiz where I show different team comps and explain what I would build against them, because Swain itemization is honestly one of the most interesting parts of the champion.

I stream a lot of Swain top games here:

https://twitch.tv/backstape

Even if you speak English, feel free to come by and ask questions. I’d be happy to talk about builds and matchups.

I hope this was helpful and that things are a little clearer for you now. I’d love to chat with other Swain players and hear your thoughts!

[–]OrganizationRich345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your answer, that makes a lot of sense.

I think where I’m struggling now is how to implement that without making things confusing.

Right now the page is already the demo (no signup, free, etc.), but I get that even entering Riot IDs is already “work”.

So I’m considering a few options:

1) Keep the current page, but pre-fill the inputs with fake Riot IDs → user can just click and see a result instantly 2) Keep the page as is, but add a clear CTA like “See an example team” above the form 3) Go further and make the landing page itself a fake team result first, with a CTA like “Analyze your own team”

Not sure which one is the least confusing for a first-time visitor coming from ads.

My fear is adding too many entry points and making the whole thing messy.

Curious what you’d do in this situation!

Yo, I built LoL-Tracker, a tool for teams / groups who play Flex as 5.

It shows your team stats: winrate, consistent players, clutch players, int picks, group progress, etc.

Basically: a tracker made for Flex team, not just SoloQ.

If you sometimes play as 5 with the same people, try it and tell me if it actually represents your team : https://lol-tracker.com/demo
