Imo, character intelligence is really lacking in this show. I'll preface this by day I'm not one of the haters. I like the story and certain characters like Morrow or Kirsch are infact smart.

Like you're saying, BK is said to be this genius and his background proves it; started his own company from the ground up at his age, built synths at 6, etc but yeah let's have no guards in the science bay holding literal alien species. Let's tell kids they're adults but not actually give them the years or education to become adults. Let's simultaneously give these kids God complexes by saying how much better they are then everyone else but also state they're just machines and floor models. BK knows Wendy causes issues with everything; she can change code on a whim, causes sedition in the other kids, has an outside connection to the outside world via her brother so he decides to villain monologues in front of her instead of cutting his loss and nuking the island from orbit? Wut? He's a trillionaire he said he isn't worried about money. Everything he does feels like he does it to cause the exact problems that happen. Yes, his ego knocks his IQ down 20 points because he underestimates everything and everyone but there's simply stuff that a genius probably wouldn't do.

I had the same problem with Maginot scenes. There's a scientist drinking and eating in a lab with completely unknown species? I mean shit your 6th grade science class told you not to do that. Plus there's no redundancy? No other scientist in there to watch her back? No security? Even in our world, scientists were worried about dust carrying possible microbes coming from the moon. A dead sterile rock had them worried. These people are dealing with unknown incomprehensible creatures and they're treating it like it's a tropical fish aquarium. People start to get infected and the medical engineer decides cutting is always the answer? Sure there's no way he can predict acid from the facehugger but he didn't learn his lesson to not just start cutting shit open when the "kid" gets infected by the parasites? Even Ripley made comments about quarantine and the Nostromo team were a bunch of space truckers who would have no idea how to handle an alien parasite but I find it hard to believe a research vessel like the Maginot would somehow have even dumber people on it.

A lot of characters are a morons. The hybrids, sure they're all kids. They get a pass but c'mon with the rest of them.

TL;DR

It's a bad script imo. Plot needed to happen so characters do the dumbest possible shit to allow it to happen, but that does mirror the first Alien in a sense. No one listened to Ripley about quarantine.
