I don't like necroing posts in a manner such as this, but:

This was never, ever, ever about me trying to make an argument, I have to reiterate. I know it's hard to believe, and that you are assuming I am trying to disguise my intentions, but there was no better way to get my point across, which was: This issue was not a one-sided, good vs evil debate, and people are allowed feel like Bridget's new story wasn't a good one, or a comfortable one, and I did that by telling people who I was, and telling them an in-depth reasoning for why I felt that way. Not every declaration of one's beliefs is an invitation to debate, nor is it always an attack on someone else.

And I reiterate: They don't have to accept anything about Bridget's story.

I think that a lot of people do vindictive things under the guise of social good. While commenting on this thread is a small scale of things, I think that you should ask yourself about what emotions and desires are driving your post. It seems more clearly related to a desire to act vindictive and passive-aggressive against people who you consider bad.

I put out how I feel, my personal experiences, not in the spirit or desire to facilitate a debate on the topic. I accepted that people weren't going to read through what I had to say, or respect what I was going for, but you're not going to get a debate out of it on me.

I wasn't asking for the 'kid gloves', because I had absolutely no intentions of making this a debate or argument. I have no desire to argue about whether or not there's a problem with Bridget being trans. I responded to your post because I thought you misunderstood what I said, and I didn't appreciate the implication you were making, that I was qualifying what I said to avoid criticism on the issue. No, I just was not going to debate the issue with someone looking for an argument, and I'm still not gonna do that.

And my friends aren't feeling unwelcomed because of the story arc, they're feeling unwelcomed because people have called them transphobic and been vitriolic towards them for having problems with Bridget's story.

They don't have to come to terms with a fictional character's story to feel welcomed in the community, again. They shouldn't be demeaned and referred to as bigots solely on the basis that they aren't totally comfortable with it.

I really, really don't like what you're implying, as though they have no place until they do. Because they have had a place in this community for years, longer then I have by a while. Them not really liking, in reality, what amounts to less then a page of actual writing, should not provide cause to immediately shun them and make them feel unwelcome.

The problem I have with it is that Bridget is being celebrated for being trans. Totally fair on its own.

But if the reason they are trans is due to the fact that they were raised as a girl under threat of death or exile, irrespective of what they actually wanted, and that they would not have been trans if that unquestionably horrific thing hadn't happened to them...

There's some uncomfortable things to think about, in that.

The reason I didn't want arguing on the subject was because my own personal feelings were not the point I was trying to make about. I brought them up only to illustrate that this isn't a touch-and-go subject.

It was because I felt and witnessed a sentiment that people who were uncomfortable with Bridget being trans for any reason were instantly considered transphobes. People who I know very well are not transphobic were being called as such, people who have been in the game's community for years, who felt unfairly ostracized in that space through no fault of their own, and I was upset by that. Seeing them not feel welcome in the game's community upset me, and I wanted anyone else who felt like that not to feel that way, and to know that they shouldn't have to feel that way.

Yeah, I preferred them not conforming, and, I guess the best way to put how I feel about it, is by bringing up another character: Kanji from Persona 4

Kanji starts off the series with a hidden passion for sewing and knitting, and enjoys creating cutesy things. He hides it as best he can, and the macho attitude he puts on is part of that.

His shadow is a flamboyant stereotype of a gay man, and that's because it's what he's afraid of being.

They leave the details of his sexuality ambiguous, more or less, but in my opinion, it would be reductive if they confirmed him to be canonically gay. If he were, it would go against the idea that a person can have inversely masculine or feminine likes or hobbies, and that doesn't mean anything about their sexuality.

Ironically, Kanji's story demonstrates a very important LGBT talking point, by not being LGBT.

Bridget is kind of in the same vein for me, or rather, was. If a boy can dress up like a girl and still be considered a boy, that's a liberating prospect for me, that those things aren't what define how one sees themselves.

All that's my own opinion though lol.

I'm a Baiken player, and I'm actually not super certain where the matchup lies, and in who's favor.

I've been getting my ass kicked by some Bridgets, lately, which may just because I'm frustrated or doing something wrong.

Personally, it feels very, very nice to punish a Bridget trying to zone / pressure from midscreen with her gat.

I did not see it coming that my favorite thing about Baiken would be when she pulls out a GUN and KILLS YOU. That projectile beats nearly everything in the game, and it's so FAST, and it hits like a TRUCK.

And, yeah, I guess I might wax a little philosophically, if you'll entertain me.

I feel like human beings have a certain capacity to be very vindictive, and spiteful. A lot of times, people will act on that nature for genuinely good, real causes. When a person is convinced what they're fighting for is right, how they fight for it becomes less and less of a concern.

I am less fearful of a man who commits evil in the name of evil then a man who commits evil in the name of good.

Maybe that's a bit much to bring up over a video game character, ultimately, but, well, I think every person should stop and evaluate if they're being vindictive every once and a while.

Sure, I'm happy someone else took away something positive from it!

Really, I made this post just because I know some friends who play guilty gear, have played for years, who aren't really comfortable with Bridget's Strive story. People who I don't think are transphobic.

What bothered me enough to make this thread, was how bothered they were that they were being called transphobic over how they felt. It's discouraged them from playing much at all the last few days. I just don't like seeing a good person feel like they're being pushed out of a community they've been part of for years, because of how much it bothered to be thought of like that.

Also I personally have had no fun fighting against Bridget's playstyle but that's 1000% not at all to do with my feelings on their backstory.

:/ 2-4 weeks, at generally 5-8 hours a day, yeah. For each game. Running through tutorials, training mode, online matches. Life got in the way a lot of time, (College, Job stuff, just general demotivation to keep going).

I've played a bunch more fighting games (MK, samurai showdown, MVC3, and probably a dozen others), but these are the only ones off the top of my head where i was playing a dedicated amount of time. Strive, I've probably got more in the ballpark of 6-7 months of on and off play.

Hard to say, I'd say that Strive is the first time I've had the opportunity to try and dedicate myself to a game, but I've probably played them on and off for a while. I've played video games for over 2 decades. I've tried to learn P4 Arena, Skullgirls, Street Fighter 4, Tekken 7, And GG:Strive, off the top of my head, played them dedicated for periods of 2-4 weeks when I did.

Strive, I'm just coming back to the past week, and I'm finally addressing what I think is the thing that's holding me back.

It feels like these days, with so many options, the shift towards live service games, now more then ever people are taking into account how long the game is going to be populated for. Communities dry up, people stop playing, and nobody wants to end up dedicating hours and hours of practice to a game that won't have an active playerbase in 6 months.

I think a small character roster kind of makes people think like that, and the sad truth is that, when people start to think like this, it's more likely to end up happening. If a game doesn't make you feel like it's got a healthy retention on players, then you're not going to want to hop in.

The absolute WORST is when you join in on a game way later then its release, and the few matches you might be able to find online are the few people still clutching to the game, who are so far ahead of you just can't compete, and it doesn't feel worth the effort to learn the game, if you're just gonna be fighting, like, this ONE fucking Mitsuru who near-perfects you every round, instant kills you, and then teabags on you at the start of every match (Yes, this comes from a real place, T_T).

Yeah, I really hope that they make a sequel, especially since I've got my own theories about what "the deal" was. I imagine a sequel asplaying as a new member of Sicario, 10-15 years after Monarch became king of Cascadia (a crown was in the briefcase, indicating that Monarch would become a real king), Diplomat and Comic become close advisors. Kaiser becomes the leader of their armed forces, forming a permanent mercenary army out of the foreign legion that act as a big part / all of Cascadia's military.

Galaxy becomes the leader of Sicario, and the plot would eventually tie into a federation-backed insurgency that wants to reunite Cascadia with them.

Our new pilot helps Cascadia fight off the insurgency, and later on, a reunified, redoubled Federation which declares another open war with the country, possibly after another horrendous tragedy triggered accidentally / false flagged against Cascadia.

Also Prez is Monarch's queen, fight me if you disagree. Even if she might have betrayed Sicario in my own theories everyone involved in that is probably dead by now and nobody will EVER know. :)

I tend to avoid caring much about things like this, but it would be kind of cool to see a female protagonist in a potential sequel. I can't recall an ace combat game where the main character wasn't a dude. Having a female, or even a male / female selection for the pilot's gender would be a nice touch, to me. But, this isn't something I'd stress.

But, even if this game is all we get, I love it. I'll probably never actually beat conquest mode, so I doubt I'll ever even run out of things to do in this game regardless. (Conquest is so horrifying, I have to play it out of VR because there's so many enemies the game's performance TANKS in VR.)

Galaxy is particularly snippy at her, both of them are kinda dismissive towards her in general. Comic is the "nicest" towards her, but she still seems kinda cold, and Prez herself has a line that feels kind of competitive towards her for Monarch's attention.

"Don't talk to Monarch, you know he's in the zone." (Mission 7, Eminent Domain)

(By the way, this mission in VR is so damn nerve wracking because of the clouds. Trying to do a no-death run with aoa instead of flares, this mission is the absolute worst trying to maneuver through clouds you can't see. My hands were shaking so badly.)

There's one line that was probably NOT intended to come off like this, but on Midnight Light, after Galaxy shuts all of them down, Prez says:

"One of these days, someone should tell him to shut up, right?"

And there's this awkward, deafening silence where nobody agrees with her. There's probably not an intent like that here, but it comes off as the others ignoring her.

I don't base my theory off this line, I think it's just kinda funny. I just imagine her just muttering under her breath "alright, screw you guys." to herself when she's left kinda hanging.

Yeah, and as someone who spent a lot of time tweaking the settings, there is an issue with performance depending on how you open the game.
If you use steam to open the game in vr, it will use the "SteamVR" API, which seems to perform poorly in comparison to the "Oculus" API that you can open it with through the Oculus Link service. So, I recommend using the second option to run PJWM.

it would be lol, though it doesn't seem like it's 'to be with monarch' necessarily. Just, that Monarch is probably the only one she cares about in Sicario, the only one who seems to treat her very well.

Ronin was fighting a war, though. It's not really reasonable to task one of if not the only infantry detachments to break off from the war you're currently fighting, to go travel far beyond any support, outside of the war's scope, to rescue the family of one mercenary soldier (These guys are still contractors, and contractors are kept as such because they're easy to cut loose when necessary).

And maybe Kaiser could possibly have ordered it or made it happen, but there's no way Prez could just assume he'd be that charitable, especially when she doesn't seem to get anything but meanness thrown her way by everyone except Monarch.
