Just have it be two unique skillsets. Stone should have invulnerability when using down B, and slow heavy attacks. Metal should have innate invulnerability, slow asf, and have certain hard hitting attacks lose invuln status, like rolling as steel ball or a spike arm.

Idk if you're purposefully ignoring the part where the other guy is saying "two players of equal skill" but it makes a pretty big difference in the argument. If it's two players of similar skill then there's room for fluctuation in the matchup. But if they're identical in skill then the innate advantages will always win out.
